Petition against unlawful demolition of jain temple situated in Vale parle East, Mumbai
To, hon'ble PMO India
- We, the people of Jain community and fellow citizens, wish to express our deep anguish and objection over the sudden and unjust demolition of a Jain temple (1008 पारसनाथ दिगम्बर जैन मंदिर) situated in vali parle east, Mumbai, without any prior notice or due process.
Despite the High Court stay order issued on 16 April but, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) 'K' ward east officer " Navnath Ghadhe" Ordered the demolition of jain temple without awaiting any official order or outcome from the court. And, shocking The Temple was razed using JCB at 8 am before the high court session even began. This action not only shows a blatant disregard for judicial process but also reflects insensitivity towards a place of worship that holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for the Jain community.
The demolition appears to be influenced by vested interests, particularly a restaurant RK hotel (prime suspect) who faced opposition related to selling of liquor and non-veg near the temple premises. The Jain community has been vocal and peaceful in its opposition to such an act in close proximity to the temple, given the values of non-violence, purity, and sanctity associated with our religion.
The temple, which was a place of worship, cultural significance, and community gathering, was demolished without proper legal procedure, prior notice, or dialogue with community leaders. Such action not only undermines the sanctity of our religious institutions but also erodes the faith of citizens in due process and governance.
This unfortunate act has hurt the sentiments of thousands of devotees and undermines the principles of religious harmony and lawful conduct. We urge the concerned authorities to:
1 Initiate an impartial and immediate inquiry into the incident and hold the responsible officials accountable and suspension of concerned BMC officer involved in this demolition
2. Provide a public apology and assurance that such actions will not be repeated.
3. Facilitate the reconstruction of the demolished temple at the same site with full support and funding from the BMC.
4. Ensure protection of all religious structures, particularly minority places of worship, under relevant heritage and religious freedom laws.
We stand united in seeking justice and requesting your immediate intervention in this matter to uphold justice, religious rights, and constitutional values.
Sincerely,
Whole Jain community
