Petition Against Unfair Electricity Tariff Increase by Buffalo City Municipalit

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Buffalo City Metro, hereby express our strong opposition to the recent increase in electricity tariffs imposed by the Buffalo City Municipality. This sudden and staggering hike in electricity costs is not only unjustifiable but also places an undue financial burden on households and businesses, particularly during these challenging economic times.

Many households in the BCM area are already struggling to make ends meet. The steep rise in electricity costs exacerbates the financial strain on families, potentially leading to increased poverty and hardship. Eastern Cape has a huge problem with property & starvation & therefore cannot handle this increase.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of our local economy. The tariff increase places additional financial pressure on these businesses, threatening their sustainability and, in turn, local employment and economic growth. The economic growth will worsen as the Eastern Cape is already in recession.

There was a lack of proper consultation with the residents before implementing such a significant change. We believe that meaningful engagement with the community is essential in ensuring that decisions reflect the needs and realities of the people.
