Make School Safety Plans Widely Accessible and Mandate Annual Awareness Meetings

On too many occasions, my child became a statistic due to unforeseen incidents resulting in serious harm. These incidents are often attributed to a critical gap: many school members who interact with him are not directly involved in his care and unaware of his safety plans.

We find this not just alarming but a perilous oversight in our education system. There is a significant proportion of students that have individual safety plans to aid their learning and secure their wellbeing. It is thus paramount that these plans are communicated to all school staff members who come into contact with these students, not just those directly involved in their care.

With this petition, we call on schools in Ontario to require all school boards to actively and openly share all safety plans relevant to their students to all members of the school. It is crucial for all Staff in the school to be familiar with students that have Individual Safety Plans relevant to the students needs. This transparency will facilitate a better understanding of each child's special needs, potential triggers, and appropriate responses in times of crisis.

 We also push for annual meetings where safety plans and provisions will be discussed to remind everyone involved in the students educational success; Of their crucial roles and responsibilities. They have the right to knowledge of safety concerns. Staff members deserve a safe workplace and our children too.
