Horse slaughter isn't just about the treatment of animals, it is also about food safety and the health of those that would consume the meat. Horses in the US are often treated with medications that are KNOWN carcinogens. Visit any feed store and you will notice that wormers and medications for horses are marked "Not for use in animals intended for human consumption", this is because they contain ingredients that are banned for human consumption because they cause CANCER. Horse slaughter plants and kill buyers submit documents on animals that they have in their possession for a few days that say the animals have not been given those products. They have no way of knowing that information and they know it probably is not true, but they get away with it because it also stipulates that it wasn't given while the horse(s) is in their possession. It is playing roulette with people's lives.
