Better laws in Thanet to protect the community from illegal traveller groups.

Over the past 3 years illegal traveller groups in Thanet  have caused chaos in our towns and have forced many local businesses to close early fearing for their safety. 

Reports of groups refusing to pay their bills in restaurants and serving themselves in pubs has become a regular occurrence. Only yesterday we had our bar staff threatened and told ‘Give me £60 from the till, the police will take 4 hours to get here so it’s gonna be easier for you’. 

Last year we were threatened by a group after closing for the night who then gave threats of violence towards our pub in Margate. We then find out we were being sued for refusing service (at our already closed pub) for being racist. 

We have had enough and I will not elaborate on this case anymore as like many other pubs in Margate this is an ongoing case. 

Us like many other local businesses and the community think it’s time more was done and quicker than the current meeting in November to protect us and our beautiful towns.
