ACRA Student’s Plead

Greetings HWSETA management.

We are emailing this email shuttered . We have recently been told that we recieved our last stipend on the 30th of June 2024 , we were told on the 22nd of July to be precise. This has put all of us in a tight space because we are not done with our trade tests . We understand that the programme has to come to an end but we won't have a roof over our heads and food to eat while we attend the next month.

We have experienced a lot of problems before , unfinished licences as being one of them ,other people got tools when other's didn't , other people got to have 10 driving lessons when others got only 5 which led to most of them failing and we never got to get our cards for gas handling [SARACCA] . After getting the message we tried to opt for UIF because it has always been deducted from our stipends and we discovered that we weren't registered .

We were told that we are going to companies for experience for 10 months which ended up being a full year . Two months extra , of which we believed could have been used for trade and we wouldn't find ourselves at such an uncomfortable position .

The truth is , we come from very disadvantaged backgrounds of which we believe that both the HWSETA & ACRA management are well aware of . We are foreign to this province and we only had the stipend to keep us going , atleast until we are done with the trade. The fact that we were even given accomodation , food and travelling allowance should be proof enough that we don't even have the means to take ourselves back home .

We kept on going to the academy for answers and this is the message we got from one of the academy's employee , "All HWSETA students please note that ONLY the candidates scheduled for Trade Test Preparation and Trade Test are allowed to be at ACRA. Once you’ve completed and passed your Trade Test, CONGRATULATIONS!!! you may return to your homes and may commence to apply for jobs or start your own companies. Those in need of 2nd attempts, Magda will be in contact with you directly.".
