The white butterfly

Dear friend,

In the city of Diest in Belgium there is a little school building on the Beukenplein 1. It has been used as a primary school for many years, but is empty now. There is a building company that wants to build 50 flats on the land that it is on, also destroying the whole green area around it, with beautiful trees and bushes.

We are a group of people who would like to start a new school there, called 'the white butterfly' (de witte vlinder).

That is why we do this petition. To save an important (and green) neighborhood centre.

Our idea is to start a centre for home education, to stimulate parents and children to do the most important education themselves and under the best circumstances possible: at home. We want to build an centre for knowledge and experience where parents and children can go to get used to the principles of this kind of education and schooling, which is relatively new and unknown in Flanders.

Maybe you know that in homeschooling children usually have better degrees and a better feeling about their schooling then in institutionalised education. Both parents and children testify that they are more satisfied about the schooling, experience less pressure and can realise better results when they can - with the necessary support - organise the education at home and by their own efforts.

That  is wy we dare to ask for your support.
