Stop the solar farm next to Barnsdale Gardens

I believe these gardens should be preserved as the peaceful place we love. Surely the solar panels vould be sited further from the gardens

Lynne Pinder (Stonehouse, 2023-04-30)

#1403

This would completely destroy the peace and tranquility of Barnstable Gardens which have given and continues to give great pleasure to thousands of people It would be a tragic loss for the mental health of many who find visiting these gardens a great help to life

Graham Abblitt (Whittlesey, 2023-04-30)

#1404

Barnsdale Gardens are a natural resource that attracts bees, birds and other insects. It is the sort of environment we should be protecting to aid bio-diversity. A solar farm so close to Rutland water will be a blot on the landscape.

Denise Reid (Braintree, 2023-04-30)

#1405

Having visited Barnsdale several times and enjoyed the delightful gardens a peaceful haven for both humans and wildlife it would be a tradgedy to see it close plus I strongly disagree with solar farms and their impact on the environment

Richard Robinson (Wrangle, Boston, 2023-05-01)

#1407

This is a beautiful place giving peace and tranquility something we all need for our mental health and to be able to relax.

Morag Ann Briggs (SKIPTON, 2023-05-01)

#1408

This is a garden, not a car park, not waste ground, that contributes to nature, wild life and the environment and encourages others to do so. Yes, I am very much in favour of solar energy, but please, not on this site!

Patricia Vincent (Bromley, 2023-05-01)

#1409

Solar farms on agricultural land are not a good use of land, especially if it impacts local businesses

Susan Carvell (Leicester, 2023-05-01)

#1410

I like Barnsdale Gardens and wish it remains unaltered.

Daniels Cristea-Nicoara (Leicester, 2023-05-01)

#1412

It’s a gem of a horticultural place. Established by Geoff Hamilton it remains in the Hamilton family and needs to be preserved for everyone’s enjoyment!

Jessica Franks (Leicester, 2023-05-01)

#1415

Barnsdale gardens were are the forefront of extolling the virtues of relative self sufficiency biodiversity and organic gardening. These principles are still educating young and old alike.
It’s sublime example of peace and tranquility for all to enjoy learn from and escape the modern world.
Exton energy sounds like a farmer using land removed from the purpose of food production.
Bearing in mind recent events in Europe and food supply problems land should be encouraged for food production.
Give peace and quiet and common sense for once in this country a chance and please let Barnsdale gardens remain the peaceful oasis it is so that generations to come can enjoy its long serving and far reaching merits.

Richard Fleming (York, 2023-05-02)

#1416

I grew up with Geoff Hamilton creating this beautiful garden and would be extremely sad to see it disappear. It is an inspiration.

Denise MacDonald (Notts, 2023-05-02)

#1420

I do not wish to see the closure of Barnsdale Gardens due to the building of a solar panel farm.
In my opinion, a solar panel farm = a blot on the landscape.

Patricia Mallett (Wing, Leighton Buzzard, 2023-05-03)

#1421

Barnsdale Gardens is a national institution for all gardeners and the local community. The noise from the solar panels will be the source of a disturbance for visitors and also wildlife. Due consideration should be an important factor for a local inquiry and our most important nature presenters to be made aware.

Veronica Steel (Kings Lynn, 2023-05-03)

#1422

I was shocked to hear of this wholly inappropriate proposed development. It would be a blight on Barnsdale and a tragedy for the owner and visitors if the gardens were forced to close. It would have a massive negative impact on the entire community not to mention devastation of natural habitat and wildlife. An alternative, suitable brownfield site should be used. We must preserve all our precious diminishing countryside before it is too late rather than fuel its destruction by greedy developers.

SYLVIA SODEN (HINCKLEY, 2023-05-03)

#1424

It's the right thing to do 🙂

Dylan Ward (Preston, 2023-05-03)

#1426

I do not hate solar windfarms, but this one will be in a bad place for the survival of a wonderful Garden. Stop this windfarm please

Daphne fallon (Bedford, 2023-05-04)

#1427

I'm signing this because it would cause the closure of Barnsdale Gardens, which is an important National Gardening legacy.

Paul Dunn (Leicester, 2023-05-04)

#1429

I support solar farms in the right place. This is completely the wrong place for such a development.

Mike Looney (Leamington Spa, 2023-05-04)

#1430

This is a beautiful tranquil sanctuary of a place - the serenity and peace would be shattered by all the tech, infrastructure and noise not to mention the unsightly view. solar panels should go on high rise buildings.. where they can deter pigeons & gulls to their hearts content.

Katherine Eliot-Adams (Kettering, 2023-05-05)

#1433

Barnsdale is in my opinion too important to face closure.

Alan Sprague (Worcester, 2023-05-05)

#1435

I Don't want barnsdale gardens to have to close.

Darren Knapton (Bridlington, 2023-05-06)

#1437

This is my absolute favourite place to visit, it's a little piece of heaven. It's a haven for wildlife which we always see something different.

Anna Knapton (Bridlington, 2023-05-06)

#1443

This is a unique garden built up by Geoff Hamilton from BBC Gardeners World. If the solar farm should be given the go ahead then the peace and tranquility of the garden would be sadly destroyed along with some of the wildlife which has come to rely on all there is at Barnsdale. It would be a very sad day indeed!

Lyn Cullum (Lincoln, 2023-05-07)

#1446

I do not want Barnsdale Gardens to be adversely affected in any way. It’s a fantastic & historic asset nationally and locally to gardening.

Sue Browning (North Luffenham, 2023-05-07)

#1448

Because you need plants and trees to live life and survive....

Stephen Wheeler (Wnchester, 2023-05-08)

#1449

Barnsdale Gardens is a jewel in Rutland’s crown. It is a haven for humans and wildlife- we see many beautiful birds and small creatures during our visits. The proposed development in this area would unnecessarily spoil a beautiful part of our county. There must be other more appropriate sites available.

Jo Read (Oakham, 2023-05-08)

#1450

Barnsdale is a beautiful garden that provides a valuable resource for gardeners and nature lovers. The peace and tranquillity is important for both humans and wildlife. The expansion of renewable energy is also important but surely an alternative site can be found that would not harm the valuable work of Barnsdale Gardens.

Jill Ramsay (Matlock, 2023-05-08)

#1451

This development will have a catastrophic effect on a local business and will inevitably lead to its closure. Barnsdale Gardens though is not just a business, it is a national icon of 40 years standing, a hugely valuable education and social asset, an important visitor attraction and a great promoter of the values of conservation. This would be a tragedy and travesty for the owners, staff, members, visitors, local history, tourism, and for the environment.

Chris Read (Oakham, 2023-05-08)

#1452

Barnsdale us unique and we have been visiting for years

Gloria Bond (Heath and Reach, 2023-05-08)

#1453

There are too many solar farms being built on valuable farming land.

Michael Brown (Ketton, 2023-05-08)

#1454

I love visiting barnsdale its beautiful and the wildlife it has needs to stay don't want it closing

Claire Dekeysr (Leicester, 2023-05-08)

#1455

I love Barnsdale Gardens and Geoff Hamiltons legacy.

Alison Ramsey (Oakham, 2023-05-08)

#1457

We love this place & don’t want it ruined by the solar farm.

Di Norwood (Whissendine, 2023-05-08)

#1459

The impact of this proposed development on, what is, a fantastic, well established and much loved local and national resource would result in its closure and this would be a huge loss.

Sue Watts (Oakham, 2023-05-08)

#1460

As with so many renewable energy projects, it's the right thing in the wrong place.

#1463

I feel the scale and nature of this solar farm is totally inappropriate for the site and would have a detrimental effect on Barnsdale Gardens,

Carol Alexander (Leighton Buzzard, 2023-05-09)

#1470

Barnsdale is one of the best garden nurseries in the uk, Nick has carried on his fathers legacy and inspired many gardeners.

jen nicholls (Ambleside, 2023-05-10)

#1472

I object to the damage this huge eyesore will do to our wildlife and environment. There are hundreds of houses in the area without solar panels which could be used instead. Yet another greedy company willingly to destroy the fragile countryside and Barnsdale Gardens.

Vicky Brown (Whissendine, 2023-05-10)

#1473

It is wrong to use land needed to grow crops for food for solar farms when there are so many other ways of generating ‘green’ electricity

Roger Button (York, 2023-05-10)

#1474

The affect that this 'solar farm' would have on the beautiful Barnsdale gardens would be devastating. Many people enjoy visiting the gardens kept so lovingly be Geoffs family as a lasting tribute to Geoff Hamilton.

Jayne Riley (Runcorn, 2023-05-11)

#1476

This wonderful garden needs to continue.

Malcolm Garbett (LEICESTER, 2023-05-11)

#1477

I don’t want Barnsdale Gardens to close

Mavis Yallop (Coalville, 2023-05-11)

#1478

It would be a shame to loose these so very well established gardens that have inspired us. It takes a long to to create & nurture. I would hate to have these lost.

Karen Silk (Somersham, 2023-05-11)

#1479

The positioning and size of the proposed solar farm is out of keeping with the nature of the area. There are better sites for quasi industrial farms.

Jane Carnell (Wymondham, 2023-05-12)

#1480

Solar farms are great in the right place. This one will be next door to the famous Ex BBC Gardens. Full of mature plants and a haven of peace and tranquillity for nature and visitors.
Losing this space would be a real travesty to the legacy of the gardens and the irony that a green space will close to put up a business that is not GREEN and the cost of upkeep and running and disposal of the panels will far outweigh the production and carbon footprint it purports to solve!
This solar farm is a business not a green investment. it will earn the developer a huge amount of money compared to what he will give to the community! The disposal costs will then fall on the community and the developer will be long gone!

I have significant concerns regarding the impact on wildlife and local businesses

Genevieve Samson (Oakham, 2023-05-12)

#1483

There is also the owl sanctuary & the birds will be subjected to the noise of the motors all day & it will disturb them , just move it somewhere else !

I love Barnsdale gardens and do not want it to close

Paul Whalley (Leicester, 2023-05-12)

#1490

It is imperative that our gardens, countryside and wildlife are protected alongside other projects to reduce global warming and move to sustainable energy sources.

Tracy Vincent (Birmingham, 2023-05-13)

#1492

I’m signing because Barnsdale is an amazing set of gardens that can help to educate people about gardening. It is also extremely valuable for a place that provides well-being for a lot of its visitors. It is a very valuable asset for bringing visitors into the area. It is also one of the best plant nurseries in the area. I really can’t believe that it’s future could be threatened by such a horrible prospect as a solar farm in yet another of this country’s valuable green areas. Please ensure this valuable assessment remains as such for future generations of gardeners- especially as gardening is a growing area for promoting good health both physically and mentally - in a increasing pressurised society.

Leigh Streatfield (Melton Mowbray, 2023-05-13)

#1493

I object to the proposed building of this solar farm so close to Barnsdale when other sites are patently better suited. It will result in the loss of an essential public amenity.

Win Jones (Wrexham, 2023-05-14)

#1494

Barnstaple gardens have been in existence for a long time and should not be closed because of an ugly solar farm, and no doubt taking more agricultual land out of use. Barnsdale also has a long horticultural history. They should not be made to close.

Malcolm Lloyd (Moggerhanger, 2023-05-14)

#1495

I was a huge fan of Geoff Hamilton and the way he gardened.i think Barnsdale should be left as a memory of what a good and practical gardiner he was.

Lesley Stone (Canvey Island, 2023-05-14)

#1497

I feel that there are far better places to locate the solar farm.

Craig Smith (LOUGHBOROUGH, 2023-05-14)

#1499

I am worried about places like this shutting , and the lack of concern this Government pays to our fast declining wildlife and the destruction of our countryside because of the mighty pound ,we were told to go out and enjoy the countryside for our mental health oh how that message has quickly been forgotten by the power hungry.

Julie Leithy (Northampton, 2023-05-14)

#1501

This proposal is totally ridiculous! Barnsdale has been there for years and is a thriving business. This should not go ahead in memory of the great Geoff Hamilton.

Brenda Cooper-Goodman (Burgh le Marsh, 2023-05-15)

#1502

Barnsdale Gardens provide a peaceful, beautiful haven for people and wildlife. Politicians bang on about the public's mental health needs for green, open spaces and leisure facilities whilst turning a blind eye to so many of them being sold or destroyed by developers and other corporations. This is one that must stay and be treasured. Enough.

Jenny Still (Foxton, Market Harborough,, 2023-05-15)

#1503

I'm signing because Barnsdale holds a very special place for amateur gardeners, training, its a very peaceful place to go and helps mental wellbeing.
Geoff Hamilton inspired 2 generations of garden lovers. We don't want to lose such a special place. Liz Dunn

Liz Dunn (Desborough northants, 2023-05-15)

#1506

I am signing this as I have visited Barnsdale for many years and would not wish to see it close, I also appreciate the wildlife that use the gardens. I realise we do need renewable energy, however don’t understand why the solar panels should be sited where it affects other peoples businesses and general public enjoyment. Rutland is predominantly a rural farming area therefore surely it should be possible to site the solar panels on farmland where it won’t affect businesses, homes or general public enjoyment.

Susan Robinson (Grantham, 2023-05-16)

#1508

This beautiful garden cannot be allowed to close. It’s loss to both people and to the insects and wildlife that rely on it would be a tragedy

Sharon Whitney (Tavistock, 2023-05-17)

#1511

This is a unique place, it’s a national treasure, a memorial to wonderful and unique gardener Geoff Hamilton. This place is tranquil and completely amazing, tutorial to people who want to build gardens best ever gardens for people with all kind of income, it should not be destroyed or closed!

Yuna Hastings (Peterborough, 2023-05-18)

#1513

Barnsdale garden is a lasting legacy of Geoff Hamilton, Gardeners world presenter. This is how I got into gardening by watching the show in a Friday evening from Barnsdale. I have visited many times over the years and I appreciate being able to visit. Just because this is a smaller place does mean it is not valued by the gardening community .
I say bring it to the attention of national TVand it should also be an issue to consider for the local council when elections are upon us. . save Barnsdale.

Beverly Brown (Mexborough, 2023-05-18)

#1515

I’m devastated to hear about this proposal. I visit Barnsdale Gardens every other year to see developments there. It is a well known garden which is the ‘home’ of Geoff Hamilton. It can never be replaced. Please reconsider the location of the proposed solar farm.

Julie Goodfellow (Sunderland, 2023-05-18)

#1516

The gardens at Barnsdale are a precious part of gardening heritage and provide inspiration to thousands of visitors each year

Josephine Tregear (Bury St Edmunds, 2023-05-18)

#1524

Barnsdale is an historic, remarkable visitor destination, so significant in this age where green issues, healthy food and general gardening have become so important. It also helps make Oakham a GoTo destination. Anything that compromises Barnsdale functioning would be a huge loss to the venue and the area.

Geoffrey Crittenden (Hitchin, 2023-05-19)

#1527

Solar panels should be put on top of flat roofed buildings rather than taking up ground space on arable land! We need fields for plants as much as we need renewable energy. Please reconsider this siting.

#1533

I would like to help

John Greenfield (Berkhamsted, 2023-05-20)

Keith Holden (CHELMSFORD, 2023-05-22)

#1550

I truly value Barnsdale Gardens and believe the noise disruption of the proposed farm would have devastating consequences for them. I hope that a suitable alternative location can be found for valuable solar energy creation.

Lorna Aldred (Manchester, 2023-05-22)

#1551

#1568

It is important that horticultural businesses continue as they have been proven to benefit the health of gardeners, of wildlife and of life in general.
The use of productive agricultural land to generate solar power is counterproductive and wasteful at a time when home-grown food is increasingly important for the country. It would be FAR BETTER to encourage home owners etc. to install solar panels on their roofs!

Solar power is not the solution to our energy requirements in the UK. There are acres of old solar panels in Wales as they only have a 12-20 year life expectancy and when we need power in the UK during winter Solar doesn't work. Small nuclear reactors are the future.

Tim Wiggins (Ilkeston, 2023-05-25)

Sandra Kamperman (Chester, 2023-05-26)

#1580

This should close because of big business swallowing small to get there own way. There is plenty of othere places to put it

Julia Davies (Fakenham, 2023-05-26)

#1581

It would be too close to Barnsdale Gardens when there are other available plots of land just as suitable. Barnsdale Gardens is a long established business which will be put at risk of closure if the solar farm goes ahead.

Barbara Willcocks (Loughborough, 2023-05-26)

#1583

I want to support a local business and the solar farm will not help the local community

Emma Clough (Leicester, 2023-05-26)

#1585

There must be plenty of places to site this solar farm. Everyone is encouraging people to garden or grow something to help keep our insects and fight climate change. Geoff Hamilton was a greatly admired and loved gardener and his legacy should be kept.
