Moon Gymnastics Parents Need Your Help

My daughter has been apart of the youth team for the past 4 years. We have never encountered a problem with any of the coaches. She loves this program. And it would be a shame to see the kids lose this program because of this one school board member who’s projecting her beliefs onto people who don’t agree with her.

Amy Caprino is a wonderful coach!
It’s terrible that as school board member Crystal Barr thinks she can get away with this. She knew what was expected of her daughter when she joined the gymnastic team!

As a former gymnast and teammate with Nick Price (and former USA gymnast), I do not support anyone trying to come against the Moon Gymnastics organization. I switched to Moon Gymnastics to be a part of a fun, loving community where I actually felt part of a team and supportive community. The cheering of teammates was something I never really had in the USA team I had been on from 2nd-6th grade. I made the switch in 7th grade because I was excited about being part of the fun and loving team. I will always appreciate the discipline and conditioning I received with USA gymnastics and I think there are great aspects of those teams as well but there has to be respect for Moon Gymnastics. It's not just about going to practice...it's also about building those relationships with your teammates and coaches.

Moon Gymnastics is an integral program within our community that has amazing facilities and a coach who cares very much about continuing the sport of gymnastics for our youth into the future. Amy not only support her gymnasts but also our gymnasts with the Monaca Turners program and Moon HS has been gracious enough to host WPIAL championships and the MBI year after year allowing our children to participate in the sport that they love. Defaming not only Amy's reputation but that of Nick Price is not only wrong it is appalling.

Heather Uphold (Beaver, 2023-09-06)

#1235

I support the moon gymnastics team as well as their coach’s.

Kristin Kernich (Beaver, 2023-09-06)

#1243

This is being turned into a personal issue and if this goes through it is likely to have a negative impact on the whole gymnastics program. If these rules were in place before they signed up then they knew what their responsibility were.

Tony Kelly (Bethel Park, 2023-09-06)

#1245

This is sickening. Meet the attendance requirements or don’t participate. Entitled parents are out of control.

Davina Biela (Beaver, 2023-09-06)

I'm signing because I do not agree with the decisions the board has made in this situation. I fully believe in the Moon Gymnastics even though I do not have a child involved anymore. It is a fantastic program! I completely support Amy Caprino, Nick Price, and all involved with the Moon gymnastics program!!!

Cyndi Tuszynski (Moon Township, 2023-09-07)

#1256

We no longer live in the district but my daughter did moon gymnastics when she was little and the program was amazing and so is Amy…even after we moved she allowed my daughter to stay on. I always looked forward to the show. Amy abc her staff were wonderful

Shannon Bernotas (Coraopolis, 2023-09-07)

#1257

We have been involved in Central Valley Gymnastics and Monaca turners gymnastics for years following all the requirements mentioned. We support the structure and requirements for our gymnasts. They are necessary and are enforced for all gymnasts as they should be. We support moon gymnastics

Shannon M Sullivan (Monaca, 2023-09-07)

#1258

Amy has been there for years and created an amazing program. I competed against moon when I was a gymnast and my daughter did the same when she was gymnast. Moon has a great organization, why change that?

John Price (Sarver, 2023-09-07)

#1265

Attendance requirements apply to everyone and therefore you comply or do not participate. It is not fair to the other kids who participate and comply with the rules. Everyone thinks their child is special and the exception but that is what private clubs cater to.

Amanda Kernan (Pittsburgh, 2023-09-08)

#1266

I believe this is the right this to do.

Christine Lisko (pittsburgh, 2023-09-08)

My daughter has participated in this wonderful program since she was 5. Amy, Nickie, Nick, and all other coaches associated with this program have taught my daughter much more than just gymnastics such as discipline, sportsmanship, and confidence to name a few. I can’t thank them enough for their dedication to the sport of gymnastics and their athletes. Thank you!

The Moon Recreational Gymnastics program is such and amazing program run by some of the best gym coaches in the area. Not to mention some of the nicest and most wonderful people too. There program has been doing wonders for the youth and local community for over 40 yrs. I support their cause and encourage others to do so.

#1285

The coach and program are top notch. Crystal only got elected due to covid masking outrage by equally ridiculous parents in the district; she has no business being on the school board. This is clearly retaliatory and she needs to be removed immediately.

Michael Vermeulen (Coraopolis, 2023-09-12)

#1286

Moon Gymnastics is very well run and has brought joy to many little girls in the community. It is run smoothly and my daughter comes out smiling every class and wants to go back. I don’t see anything wrong, so why change something that IS NOT broken.

Amanda Miller (Moon Township, 2023-09-12)

I stand for moon gymnastics have been an excellent program for my daughter and the fact that someone used their political power for absolutely no reason. There is no harm, no foul done to any children. This is just a case of someone upset with things not going their way and trying to pull their own card. I'm a Republican voter and I am very disappointed in Mrs. Barr's horrible judgment call. If anyone should be looked down upon, it should be her for sharing what she shared. I had high regard for our school board and our athletic director prior to this event.

Amanda Brennan (Moon, 2023-09-12)

#1296

My daughter participated in this program and it was wonderful. The attendance policy is standard for a competitive gymnastics program

Mandy Miller (Coraopolis, 2023-09-13)

#1300

High school sports should be fair to all athletes, as practices are mandatory per WPIAL/PIAA rules. School board members should not be using leveraging their position to make changes to established sports programs for their own personal benefit.

Bridget Sweterlitsch (Aliquippa, 2023-09-14)

#1310

As an alumnus of Moon, I’m disgusted to see the discrimination and abuse of power by the school board. Shame on Crystal Barr for using her “power” for personal gain; people like that have no right to sit on a board. And shame on the rest of the board for ignoring the voice of the community, who outwardly supports Nick. The board doesn’t stand for the betterment of the kids, they stand for the betterment of themselves; and it’s the kids who have to suffer from this political BS. The fact that Crystal signed this herself “here for the comments” shows her disrespect for the community. Get over yourself Madam Secretary.

Brad Bruzio (Moon Township, 2023-09-15)

#1311

I went to Moon and the behavior of Crystal is not that of a Moon Tiger. It's despicable the way she has acted towards the coaches and it should, in no way, be tolerated.

Stephanie Licht (Marysville, 2023-09-15)

#1313

As a moon gymnastics alumni who competed on the team with Nick Price under Amy, I was utterly shocked when I heard of this character defamation. I remember him as the most passionate, talented and kindest gymnast on the team, always dedicated to supporting and positively challenging his teammates including myself. In no way can I imagine him not being the guy for the job. It would be a total loss on behalf of Moon sports to not have him as an instructor. If it was a public show of athleticism that has offended the board members, that is a shame and perhaps they should consider inward reflection on how their power can effect young athletes and the careers and reputation of hardworking and passionate individuals. If the team wants him back, they should bring him back!!

Jeanna Romano (Prineville, 2023-09-15)

#1318

Nick has always been a great coach and positive influence to the moon gymnastics community in my opinion. Amy Nikki and all the coaches were positive influences in my daughters gymnastics years and beyond.

#1334

Moon gymnasts have been an iconic, successful program from years from when I attended Moon graduating in 2002 to seeing my little cousins participate until recently. Its is a highly successful program that is cherished and accomplished with Moon being proud of theor acolodades. Rules are rules, clear and concise. If a memeber chooses a private competition over another, which many other families had to make that decision in the past, thats life! If the parent is a board member, shame on them, and they should be the ones removed for trying to use their position on school board by being unethical. Ms. Barr should be ashamed and if anything, removed for her unethical, poor decisions which we should never show our children this is okay to turn to to this when life does not go yoir way. Ms. Amy Capreno has obviously shown her worth and shown favoritism isnt a thing just bscause a parent is a board member. Shame on this amd Moon ahould know better to not allow poor decisions to demonstrate this to our kids!

Alaina MCDONALD (Tampa, 2023-10-02)

#1337

In support of continuing a program that so many children enjoy.

Rita Schueler (Lexington, 2023-10-02)

#1338

What Ms Barr did to Nick Price was distasteful, hateful and teaches others that hate is ok. She should be removed from the school board. I certainly do not want someone of her character representing our school district.

Eric Wasinski (Coraopolis, 2023-10-02)

#1350

I am signing because I support the Moon Area Gymnastics Association, Amy Caprino, Nick Price, all the gymnastics coaches and athletes. My daughter has been involved with Moon Gymnastics for 12 years and is now on the varsity team. Amy, Nick and all the coaches have taught gymnastics skills to all the students and they have also taught and promoted teamwork, discipline and responsibility. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the Moon Gymnastics program that Amy Caprino has lead for 40+ years.

Beth Schneller (Moon Twp, 2023-10-02)

#1352

Amy’s program has been instrumental in helping young people develop into well rounded, self confident and healthy individuals. She is an important part of the community and should be commended for her hard work and dedication to Moon’s children. Keep Moon’s gymnastics program, it is nothing but a benefit.

This situation shows an egregious abuse of power by one Board member in furtherance of her own selfish interests

Chris Drenning (Moon Twp, 2023-10-24)

#1368

Classic…A parent throwing a fit and abusing her role because their kid isn't the center of the world. What this woman pushed is wrong. It's so embarrassing to come back as an alumni to see where Moon is. Entitled to say the least. Listening to the board members flip the script on the brave speakers during the meeting was especially disturbing.
