If you build it, it will mean that there will be lots more traffic, lots more parking required. The proposal for this 8-storey building would, as English Heritage has said previously, will undermine the significance of the conservation area and its jewel asset Birnbeck Pier. Eight storeys is a tad excessive. Considering there is a drive to restore the town to its former Victorian splendour through shop refurbishing, restoration of amenities like the Tropicana and the Marina and even the Birnbeck Pier project, I think this would be a better use of the site. I believe in only replacing a building within original footprint. This building is too high, in a conservation area, and a blot on the magnificent view. Which, after all, is also part of economic prosperity for WSM, as it is the views which make people want to visit from outside the town, as well as making the town a pleasant place for residents to live and enjoy. As a boy I collected for the RNLI and was treated to going down the slipway at Birnbeck. Now as an architect remember visits to Prince Consort Gardens eating chips with our sons. We held our wedding reception in the Royal Pier Hotel in 1980 and are horrified that this prime site has not been redeveloped. I am signing this petition because I am a frequent visitor to the Prince Consort park and absolutely love the views from there. I take all my visitors to this park for the views.I'm horrified that CNM Estates would even consider building anything higher than the original hotel. But, then again, their dirty tactics over Birnbeck Pier says it all!

We often walk our dog in this park. It’s a beautiful space to unwind, sit on a bench and take in the marvellous view. The gardens are well kept by the volunteers and very colourful and calming. And we often chat to other visitors who enjoy it as much as we do. It’s a sanctuary and allows you to de-stress. If this tower block is built it will be a huge blot on the landscape. It will ruin the views forever. Ps. I signed a petition against a similar build in Cornwall, along with lots of others. It would have ruined the beach on this occasion as well as the views. The local MP wrote to me a while after to thank you for my input and announced the plans had been scrapped. This development would significantly degrade the unique blend of period architecture, scenic beauty, and historical character of Weston-Super-Mare, just for the profit of an uncaring developer. Is this a valid reason to further degrade this lovely, historic town? We have seen continual destruction of irreplaceable buildings, such as the earliest thatched hotel, where the new buyer knocked out internal supporing walls inside overnight to prevent the pending protection order...
