My niece is at this school.

This school is right in the heart of Oakfield & Elmfield and plays a vital role within the community. Children within that community would also have some distance to travel to the nearest alternative, not every parent has access to transport or can afford to travel on buses/taxis. Please rethink the closure of this vital community resource.

My children go there and the teachers put there all into helping the children and achieve and thrive in their education.

I went to this school as did my Mother before me and we need to keep this school open! It's a fantastic School and they're building more and more houses on our little Island and before long there won't be enough schools let alone other important amenities!

it's not fair on the whole comminity, the staff and especially the children.
Also what a waste of funding to get a nice building and then close it! seems stupid to me the whole thing.

Oakfield is an excellent school that transforms kids lives in a deprived area. It makes absolutely No sense to axe it

The school is fantastic for my daughter, she is settled and I want to protect her mental health by not being moved around.

My two older children went to Oakfield, and the staff provided a wonderful, safe, nurturing environment as well as giving my oldest extra support and 1-1 tuition because he was on the gifted register for Maths. He is currently enjoying the wonderful opportunity of attending a US university for a year, as part of a Computer Science degree which has a considerable Maths component. I attribute part of what he's doing now to the extra support given to him by Oakfield to achieve his full potential.

My second son also benefited from the strong Music teaching provided by Oakfield, as well as the incredible opportunity to travel to Italy for his first holiday abroad. The passion for Music shown by Mrs Teague sparked a genuine interest in composing his own Music, and he is just about to start his second year at Platform One, whilst also looking to apply for a Music degree, and has his own Spotify page and YouTube channel, all thanks to attending a school that identifies and nurtures individual talents, skills, and abilities.

I and my children also have a genetic connective tissue disorder which causes pain and fatigue. We had no car, and Oakfield was the only primary school within a walking distance that I could cope with, of where we lived in Elmfield. All of us would have been at a considerable physiological disadvantage every single day if we'd had to walk to and from a school further away.

Expecting Oakfield's catchment area children, the youngest of whom are barely out of pushchairs, to walk across Ryde to school every day, in all weathers, is the kind of decision made with little regard to the wellbeing of children and families, by people who probably drive a car to County Hall every day (for which they might well be able to claim a mileage allowance too), and have no concept of what it's like to not have a car and therefore have the need to have essential facilities like schools within REASONABLE walking distance.

Even with the current reduced £2 bus fares (which are possibly ending before the proposed closure anyway), the cost to families during a cost of living crisis of bussing children to a different school further away (and then back home for the parent escorting them) would be untenable.

Closure of this school when there are close to 1000 houses being built in the catchment area is an incredibly short sighted idea. Kids need to be in smaller classes to improve education standards, not combined with another school to form larger classes.
Another point, moving children across to the other side of Ryde will heavily increase traffic as the distance is not walkable for younger children. More traffic, more pollution

All of my children are currently in this school. My eldest is year 5 and my youngest is year 1. They have supported my eldest through alot of issues during her time here. All the teachers are supportive and caring.

Stats do not show the whole story or the reason behind the figures. Oakfield is a credit to community and always puts its pupils first

My son and daughter both went to Oakfield, and now my grandchildren attend. This school has always been the heart of the community.

Ian Jackson (Hedge End, 2024-09-08)

We have always been a strong community. I have only worked at Oakfield for 6 years and in that time I have seen it grow and change year after year. Each change aimed at improving the quality of education for our young learners and parents in the local communities. Oakfield would be a huge loss, we are the Oak family.

I have friends in the area where children go to this school and whilst have previously had terrible experiences at other schools due to their needs which simply cannot be met, at Oakfield Peimary they have thrived due to excellent teaching, the school surroundings and facilities.

Having known Oakfield for 50 years and been chair of governors at both Oakfield and Bishop Lovett and knowing its importance to the local community I am astounded that such a short sighted decision to even be contemplated

Oakfield school serves a very deprived area and if closed, children would have at least a 45 minute walk elsewhere and most parents do not have cars.Y4GX

My daughters went here when it was Bishop Lovett and my son went when it was oakfied primary. Would be a huge loss to ryde if it closed.

I'm singing because my god daughter has really fitted in at this school and feels it her happy place to be, and really enjoy it

Peter Jackson (Manchester, 2024-09-09)

I’m not local to the school but my god-daughter attends and I can see how much she loves the school and teachers. She has come on so much in not just her academic skills, but just as importantly her social ones and these are not always measured on an OFSTED or Council report.

Our eduacation standards on the Isle of Wight are low and to transfer children to other schools would make class sizes bigger. The cost of transporting children to other schools on the Isle of Wight is another cost to parents many of which are struggling to support their families.

I have many friends who's children attend this school or have attended this school and they are all doing so well. I myself now have a small child and would like the option in future to send him here if I wish too. Closing these schools would not be good for our island and would leave limited choices for our children to attend and would add so much pressure on the remaining schools and staff. The middle schools have already been taken from us and now this, if this carries on we'll have no schools left.
