This is an unacceptable disregard for the rule of law,and should receive immediate attention. It goes against orderly social cohesion and promotes a disrespect for social order. The negative economic impact on law abiding rate payers can not be tollerated.Amanda De Waal (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

The street people are living directly opposite my child's school. I have witnessed them defecating in plain sight of the children. My own child had been subjected to their indecent exposure. Their foul language is audible to the children. There are no toilet facilities at this site.
It is incredibly unsightly. There is always a mess. The rat infestation of our town centre has increased due to ongoing mess left lying around by Street people.
Melissa Demaio (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

It is not an option to have an informal settlement in the town center of Durbanville as this will lead to increase of crime, Hygiene problems with spread of disease, littering and general disorder and lowering of property values. As a rate payer I request this situation to be addressed and managed in a responsible manner by the relevant municipal authorities. It is completely unacceptable to let this happen right under the nose of the police, which sends the wrong message to criminal elements and puts rate paying and law following citizens at risk.Ursula van Eeden (DURBANVILLE, 2022-07-15)
#873
Agree that action be taken urgently to prevent further escalation of this situation and others in the area.Jacobus Uys (Eversdal, 2022-07-15)

The tents and their occupants are unhygienic and harass people in Durbanville. All around Durbanville primary school human waste can be found. I cannot let my child play around the trees next to the parking lot where we wait each day for school to finish. Human waste everywhere. They need to go!Jolanie Lubbe (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

High rates of crime and disgusting behaviour displayed by these people such as urinating and even worse for all to see. All of this in front of our primary school. Please, this unlawfulness has to stop!Marisa Aldrich (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

I'm signing because I don't dutifully pay rates and taxes on property values for these type of developments to negatively impact my investment on which a heavy mortgage bond is being paid. This needs to be dealt with immediately. I have been impacted before where I lost a lot of money in selling my property for far less due to being affected by similar developments. Understandably, my frustration and infuriation are running high and vigilante action is uppermost of mind.It is disappointing and I am angered that our elected officials are doing nothing to date to address this problem. Where do these people come from? Move them back there. Alternatively, accommodate them in another place somewhere else away where they can reside in dignity and facilities acvordingly provided.
Law abiding (not for much longer as I am fed up) hardworking people are now facing the scourge of these tent settlements yet we dutifully pay our taxes in the face of being served by what seems to be useless councilors.
I'm all for the poor and needy to be helped (and do support a number of charities) but not at the continued cost of my property investment and a defacement of our living area in what I believed to be a decent and good suburb to move to with my family. If we all take a similar right to setup anywhere not paying a cent, I'll quickly fence off a big portion of vacant land anywhere and set up a tent/Zozo and claim it for myself. Others may follow suit. But this would be lawlessness. Why are these people permitted to be lawless for pleading "homeless or poor". If so, it just plainly means that local government has failed both the rate paying residents and the homeless in effectively addressing this matter. It is high time that something is done. And that time is NOW!

There is a similar situation behind Stellenberg Gardens next to the N1, resulting in pollution of the Kuilsrivier and surrounding area. It also results in increased incidents of water taps and meter theft in the area. There are weekly conflict with the residents during refuse removal days.Leon Strydom (East rock, 2022-07-15)

It is unacceptable for all those tents to be erected illegally in an area close to a school and it also reduces the property value of people who paid a lot to have their homes built legally. Tax payers should have a say when it comes to our city and informal settlements being erected without consent of the residents.Lize Webb (Durbanville Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

The tents must goPam Harrison (Kenridge, 2022-07-15)

This is a huge security concern. It is extremely un-neat and not suitable accommodation against weather conditions. This is NOT an allocated camping site and there are no ablution, laundry electrical, potable water and sanitation facilities also there are no garbage facilities. We as a family feel unsecured to pass neat this facility for obvious security reasons. We do not support the retail facilities on this area any more.Daniel Johannes Terblanche (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

We cannot afford to have a “squatter camp” in the area they are currently taking over. The fesus that is just left there is firstly not acceptable and soon this could grow into a big problem if not stopped. It is literally growing by the week!!!!!Michelle Alberts (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

these people must get better places to stay...healthy and cleaner.then we want a clean neat entrance to Durbanville....we moved here to have a calmer neater suburb...but the tents and street sleepers and homeless took over some streets...more robberies and break ins reported....and with loadshedding more unsafe.
we dont want a caravan park at the entrance of our lovely suburb..dirty ..noisy...unsafe for us and opposite the primary school..please make a plan...wedont want them there

Who gives them the right to put up tents and shacks wherever they want? I truly feel sorry for the homeowners who paid a lot of money to live in a security complex, just to have this problem right on there doorstep!!No toilet facilities, making fires, washing lines…… It’s a disgrace and a saw eye to our beautiful city!!!!

!Yolande Van Rensburg (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)
