Winston did nothing wrong just defended his family.(Hillside, 2017-09-15)
#8217
If it is true the dog stopped an intruder, then the dog had done its job, it was not roaming the streets and randomly attacks someone, was at home in his yard.......Why has the intruder not been fined the same amount for being on the property unauthorised? ?unless he can prove he had a legal reason for being there then the intruder should have to pay all fines and cost associated with releasing this dog.
(Cookernup, 2017-09-15)
#8218
It's the guy who was on the property, that should be punished not Winston for protecting his home. Wrong again council !!!(Adelaide, 2017-09-15)

#8236
How can the council just take a dog from its own yard? I was home one day and I saw 2 council officers from my kitchen window come into my yard on an acre and try to take my dog - they said they had had a complaint about my dog being out!!! I said she is in her own yard - where is your proof!! I tefused to let them take her and they wrote out some pink form - which I tore up! Complete bs!!! Free Winston - he was in his own yard - arrest the intruder!!!! The dog was keeping her family safe. We had a burglar- and our girl grabbed him on the arm and wouldn't let go!! She saved us losing our belongings - Digs ate family protectors - faithful and loyal. Councils are full of stupid uncaring sub humans with no common sense! Free Winston!!(Brisbane north, 2017-09-15)
#8237
disgusting!(DRUMMOYNE, 2017-09-15)
#8240
This dog is not the criminal, the trespasser is the criminal, and what were the trespassers intentions??? Theft? Rape? Terrorising children? I'm so sick of hearing stories like this, hearing that the victims of crime once again have to pay. This is truly disgusting!(Melbourne, 2017-09-15)
#8242

#8243
I was in a similar situation I was lucky I got help from a lovely lady Angii and was put in touch with a solicitor who just deals with dog law. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't still have my best friend. Hope all goes well for Winston and he is returned home to his family where he belongs.(Melb, 2017-09-15)

He did what he was trained to do .. protect his family.. Don't protect the criminal , what a joke ..(Wollongong, 2017-09-15)
#8257
Cos this is bullshit, if you can no longer protect your family you are now living in state sanctioned anarchy....... so learn how to dispose of a body people and don't tell any one when some jerk chooses to violate you or your family on your property.... Im sick of this shit.(AssVille, 2017-09-15)
#8258
I think it is a joke that a dog doesn't have the right to protect his owners and property from a criminal . When someone is an intruder to your property .then I would like to think my dog would protect me and if he did you wouldn't have to give up his life for it. I mean it's ok for people to attack a dog and they don't get put down so why should the dog when he was only doing his job .(Woodburn, 2017-09-15)
#8259
Winston was doing his job, protecting his family. That intruder entered a yard which was not his on, without permission, in order to steal. A bite is fair punishment. Winston taught him a lesson I'm sure.(Australia, 2017-09-15)
#8261
every OWNER AND THERE DOG has/ should have the right to protect there home and family with in there own yard. The person who entered the yard lawfully should be charged!!!!!!(brisbane, 2017-09-15)

The dog was PROTECTING HIS FAMILY FROM AN INTRUSION . WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO THIS FAMILY HAD THE DOG NOT ALERTED THEM. FREE THE BLOODY DOG HAD GIVE HIM A HUGE BONE(Wallaville, 2017-09-15)
#8264
So if I hit someone breaking into my property in the middle of the night our Council would want to put me down? Come on Mark Jamieson show some compassion and deal with the real criminal - the bloke who should not have trespassed.(Woombye, 2017-09-15)
#8265
This is OUTRAGEOUS! the dear boy dog was doing what comes naturally to any family member - PROTECTING his family from low life scum bags! FREE WINSTON and WAKE UP TO YOURSELVES MRC - how ridiculous! If "the person" made a complaint, then surely their details are on file/record- Winstons owners should be allowed access to them to have HIM/HER CHARGED WITH TRESPASS! Am I missing something here? a feral scum bag broke the law yet an innocent dog is being charged for protecting his family? Only one of them should be behind bars & deemed DANGEROUS!(Moreton Bay Shire, 2017-09-15)
#8266
The dog was doing his job that what poeple have them for(Biloel, 2017-09-15)
#8267
This is so unfair , when are people doing the wrong thing going to be penalised . This dog was protecting his property.(Sydney, 2017-09-15)
#8269
I'm signing this because I believe a family pet is a family member, and if an intruder was harmed for being on private property then he deserved to be reprimanded, whether it was by a four legged family member or a two legged one!! I have recently lost one of our four legged family members and it was traumatic and depressing and wouldn't wish it on any family, especially when it possibly can be stopped from happening. How about they put the offender down!! Yeah, would never happen. So why persecute the protector.....
(Bright, 2017-09-15)
#8271
The dog was in his own yard. The person was trespassing, Punish the intruder. END OF STORY Start using common sense you idiots who are saying destroy the dog. Common sense is far superior than a degree or certificates to say how capable you are for a job. Maybe people should start having common sense degrees/certificates. Sure lots would fail.(Maryborough, 2017-09-15)
#8272
No one should be able to destroy an animal without proof.(Townsville, 2017-09-15)
#8273
I am a dog owner, I am sure he was just protecting his family.(South Mackay, 2017-09-15)
#8275
Winston is a family pet & you have no proof of wrongdoing.(Strathmore, 2017-09-15)
#8276
The dog was protecting its territory and family. If the incident occurred while this individual was trespassing then that person's illegal act should negate the actions of the dog. The trespasser did not have the owner's permission to gain entry and of course then the dog would feel threatened. How do you know that this trespasser did not try to kick or hit the dog and the dog has reacted to that? If it was off leash in a public place without any instigation then I would agree that the dog should be considered for euthanasia, but in these circumstances I believe the dog was doing its job in protecting the family home. If he was so dangerous then why are those children next to him so happy? Please be rational when considering the destruction of life.(Newcastle, 2017-09-15)
#8277
An intruder was trespassing and it's the dogs right to protect its property!(Airlie Beach, 2017-09-15)

#8287
Dogs SHOULD protect their family and property. He did what any loyal dog would do.
(Melbourne, 2017-09-15)
#8288
They must have proof or anyone can accuse your dog of biting someone and they will be put down. I believe a dog should be able to protect your property from intruders that shouldn't be there anyway. Give the dog a fair go.(Inverell, 2017-09-15)

If someone comes into your yard, your dog should have as much right as the occupant to protect it.(Townsville, 2017-09-15)
#8298
You have every right to protect your property and if intruders enter..bad luck to them. We are so good at protecting the criminals and not the victims !!! Why should this dog die for being loyal(Ballan, 2017-09-15)
#8299

#8300
It's wrong to destroy this little guy he was defending his family(Nsw, 2017-09-15)
#8301
I believe this is another reason why a lot of people have dogs. They are not only kept as a pet, but also as a deterrent & protection for thieves and intruders . Has the intruder also been fined $1500 for trespassing?(Coffs harbour, 2017-09-15)
#8303
He was only protecting his home and nobody has the right to come unannounced on to your property(Darwin, 2017-09-15)
#8305
a family pet can also be a guard dog. this person was illegally on this property, the dog did it's job and stopped this person from harming or stealing from his family. if a business had a guard dog on it's property and someone was bitten the person would be charged with trespass, what is the difference??????(ballogie, 2017-09-15)
#8309
This is an inhumain action by a council failing to comply with laws. Section 16 (2) a,b,c of the companion animal act 1998 all cover this incident it IS NOT an offence for a dog to bite if the incident occured by a person trespassing(Newcastle, 2017-09-15)
#8314
He was doing what is natural and safe guarding his family against an intruder. I would expect nothing less from a loyal family member. He is a hero(Hoppers Crossing, 2017-09-15)
#8315
We are fast getting to be a country with no common sense. I hope, that if someone was in my yard in the middle of the night that our dog would try to protect our family. Let's have some common sense back in to council decisions.(Bundaberg, 2017-09-15)

The dog was protecting his family. If my dog bit an intruder and someone decided she should die because of it, I would do everything in my power to save her.(Cairns, 2017-09-15)
#8328
What a sad story. A dog impounded for only doing what most people get a dog for in the first place, to protect their owners, and now being punished for it. What does the Council expect a dog to do when someone else is on the owners property? What the hell was this guy doung there anyway. I hope you get your dog back(Woongarrah, 2017-09-15)
#8329
Winston did his job in protecting his boundaries. Is this not one of the reasons we choose to have dogs? This is ridiculous. A criminal has more rights.(Donvale, 2017-09-15)

How can they convict or fine without proof! Total rot...even if this dog did bite as they say, He has a defense under the domestic animals act. Get in touch with barristers for animals or the like asap...(Gold coast, 2017-09-15)
#8335
To destroy a dog in these circumstances with no requirement for any sort of proof is totally unwarranted. Even if proof is supplied, the person was trespassing and if they had not been in the wrong the dog would have had nothing to do with them. If they choose to break the law then they need to accept that they may not like the consequences.(Lower Hutt, 2017-09-15)
#8336
The dog was simply protecting his property & family! Dickheads shouldn't go trespassing!!!(Brisbane, 2017-09-15)
