I am writing to express my growing concern regarding the escalating criminal conduct in New Zealand. The rise in criminal activities is not only affecting the safety and well-being of our communities but is also undermining the trust and confidence that citizens place in our government to protect them.Over recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in various forms of crime, ranging from petty thefts to more serious and violent offenses. This troubling trend poses a substantial threat to public safety and the quality of life that New Zealanders have come to expect and cherish. It is imperative that immediate and effective measures be implemented to curb this alarming rise in criminal activities.
I urge the New Zealand government to take the following actions:
1. Strengthen Law Enforcement: Increase funding and resources for law enforcement agencies to ensure they are well-equipped to prevent and respond to criminal activities promptly and effectively.
2. Community Policing Initiatives: Develop and expand community policing programs that foster strong relationships between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. This approach can enhance trust and cooperation, leading to more effective crime prevention.
3. Crime Prevention Programs: Invest in crime prevention programs that address the root causes of criminal behavior, such as poverty, lack of education, and inadequate social support systems. Providing opportunities for at-risk individuals can significantly reduce the likelihood of them turning to crime.
4. Legislative Reforms: Enact and enforce stricter laws and penalties for criminal activities to deter potential offenders and ensure that those who engage in criminal conduct are held accountable.
5. Public Awareness Campaigns: Launch public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on crime prevention strategies and the importance of reporting suspicious activities to authorities.
By taking these actions, the government can demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of all New Zealanders and restoring a sense of security and peace within our communities. It is crucial that we work together to address this pressing issue and create a safer environment for current and future generations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that you will consider this petition with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.

I am also an immigrant who come from China and have lived in Auckland for over 10 years. I am shocked and heartbroken by the terrible treatment of such a young victim. This has nothing to do with race, gender, or age—everyone in society should enjoy basic safety and respect. Over the past few years, the topics that residents talk about and experience the most are the out-of-control cost of living, housing prices, and the once-proud public safety, as well as an increasing number of racist incidents. What is even more heartbreaking and frustrating is the government's inaction, the police's inaction, and even dereliction of duty. What has happened to New Zealand?!Kun Ge (Auckland, 2024-07-04)
