It is not safe for kids to go back to school with the numbers of those infected escalating everyday

Child especially from grade 7 to 9 are still irresponsible, they won't be able to follow the rules like as adults,so why not wait for the virus to slow down a bit.....

Children are most vulnerable to infection & wont b able to adhere to social distance / some schools do not even have proper sanitation facilities - Children can stay @ home & receive education through TV channels with dedicated time slots for each grade as far as i am concerned only the grade 11& 12 need to go to school The rest can b educated through social media

I have a son, 14 which gets sick easily. I think children should be the last to go back to school. WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY SAFE

Retha Smit (Germiston, 2020-04-30)

#632

If we send our children back now, we might as well end the lockdown completely. The appropriate safety measures for our children are not in place yet.

Lovelle Wright (Germiston, 2020-04-30)

#633

This hasn't been thought thru. What about kids with asthma and special needs?I'm against sending kids to school until the infection rate cums down drastically...

Ismail Mohamed (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#635

I feel that the children will be at risk. We have not reached the peak yet. Adults cannot go to work but thousands of kids will be allowed back at school- too scary to think about. Transports are not going to comply with social distancing we know that. Taxi's also. There are too many kids to practice social distancing. There are also 40 plus kids to a class. How are they going to be protected. No I am not comfortable at this stage. I feel my child's life is at risk.

Vicki Maistry (Pietermaritzburg, 2020-04-30)

#636

Our kids are not safe to go to school they are 65 in one class.....

I think its stupid to send children back to school while there is 5000 people infected with this virus. They closed the schools on 500 cases and now want to open it while there is still so many untested people.

My daughter and I are asthmatic and you want my child to return to school in a class of more than 40 and seated at a table with 4/5 hownon earth does it make sense we have not reached the peak of this virus and how on earth can kids return but not vulnerable employee's this decision is the worst by far since this lockdown

Jasmina Ismail (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#659

It's just not safe for our future kids to go out to school now, how can this even be a possibility, it's like destroying our future , destroying innocent lives, putting them in danger

Fahima Abdul (Durban, 2020-04-30)

#660

I havs 3 kids ons school and yes its important for my 2 older ones to go but how can the country be on lockdown but kids must go to school. What is the purpose for me as a parent keeping my children in the house for almost 7 weeks just for them to get the virus at school. With my son having a pre existing condition I will not do that.

Crystal Pienaar (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#661

I fear for the safety of all our children. Children do not realize the dangers of touching and do not adhere to the rules of keeping distance. The spread of the virus will increase drastically if we open our schools to early

I'm signing this petition because,I think that reopening of schools it's a very big mistake that the department is making, how are our children going to be safe in any over crowded classroom? How are they going to be safe during play time?Who is going to make sure that they don't hug, hold each other's hands etc?Reopening of schools so soon I think it's a very big mistake!!!!!

Dinkels Van Deventer (Virginia, 2020-04-30)

#679

I will be more comfortable with sending my children to school when the level has reduced not while we're still at Level 4. As we have seen the number of cases increases daily so sending my children to school doesn't sit well with me especially since we live with elderly people in the house .

Zandile Dhlamini (Johannesburg, 2020-04-30)

#680

My domestic helpers' son is in a class of 73 (meant for 30) in Diepsloot- how can you possibly contain the virus in these circumstances? I totally disagree.

I am not in agreement with the re opening of the schools so soon. I honestly don't have a problem with the current school calendar/year coming to an end for the rest of the year. I'd rather have my kids repeat grades than die. I'm sorry. I'm not comfortable with taking my kids to school.

#700

I'm signing because I find this decision to be careless and very risky, despite the safety measures laid to prevent any transmissions, we all know that kids can not be trusted to follow them and the numbers of infections are still going up.

Goemamang Maropefela (Mafikeng, 2020-04-30)

#703

There is no way I'm exposing my children to the dangers of the covid-19.
There is no deadline to Education and kids can continue to go to school when it is safe.
You cannot replace the life of a loved one....especially a child...
And how do you live with your conscious knowing that you were the one who sent your child into a dangerous situation.......

Tracey Gibson (Roodepoort, 2020-04-30)

#706

Children will not social distance nor wash their hands as much as it is needed. You will also not be able to keep a mask on for 6 -8 hours of a school day. Its shocking that you think this is ok.

Bev Salvadori (Johannesburg, 2020-04-30)

#707

I do not agree that our kids will be safe and that it is in the best Interest of our children. How are we supose to control the masses. The kids that take public transport. Unacceptable

Omphemetse Seima (Mahikeng, 2020-04-30)

It is too dangerous for kids to be stuck in a classroom together. They will get sick and bring it home to family members, some of whome are at risk patients.

#712

I have a child in school and will not expose him to this virus!

Annelle Smith (Mpumalanga, 2020-04-30)

#714

Take a leapyear, let all children from fresh to matric redo the year next year, then we can be sure what the virus are doing and schools can be prepared more adequately to deal with this issue, children will be more use to wearing masks. Our focus should be in protection not sending our kids into a warzone...

Mathilda Botes (Randfontein, 2020-04-30)

How can you risk the life of children while parents are on lockdown

Florence Milanzi (Capetown, 2020-04-30)

#726

I have a grandchild who's life I value more than the education system. We have been educating her with the help of the teachers, in the comfort of our home where she is safe, and can continue to do so until the pandemic is over. I will not put her in a situation where she could possibly get the virus and risk her life.

Cecilia Addyman (Port Elizabeth, 2020-04-30)

Ntsaphokazi Quwe (Gauteng, 2020-04-30)

#731

The number of infected keeps on going up and the death toll increases, for me it seems to be early to allow young ones to go back to school.
And our government must come with a better strategy since well we don't have a better resource to accommodate school reopen Like other countries did.

Kwena Setibela (Tzaneen, 2020-04-30)

Priscilla Mathetha (Pretoria, 2020-04-30)

#742

The risk that will endanger the health of our kids, all the requirements made are not practical in most government schools so it won’t be fair for other students to be sited at home for their own safety while others are busy learning. Teachers cannot be made responsible to take any health and safety measures at school because they are not certified to do so according to our regulations. Lastly the government can change the school term, may it rather start at July and run until June next year because then it will also balance with college and varsity term and it will be towards the end of winter so we will know the severity of the risk and have all control measures in place. As much as you want schools to open none of the municipalities have measures in place already for all the schools including the burned schools.

Please let’s have quality instead of quality interms of performance and product being delivered in school, we just need to have correct measures in place such as a proper risk assessment for each school as they differ before we can have kids and teachers back in class.

I'm signing because.. I find it rediculous sending the kids back to school with this virus still around.. The primary school kids are not gonna adhere To the schools rules ND regulations.. Children will not keep their distance ND Will not keep their mask on for the duration of school hours.. So I find it risky to send my child bk to school..we are risking our childrens lives by sending them bk.. ND I so will not risk with my child's life ND send him bk school..!!!

I honestly feel it is way too soon for kids to go to school.Due to them not seeing their friends for a very long time I don't feel they will maintain social distancing. Also many of our schools have a large number of children so how would social distancing be met.I don't believe kids would maintain hand hygiene in schools.

I don’t think it’s a good idea
Education can be achieved lifelong
Life is more important
What about children that have complicated health issues diabetes heart kidney problems
Etc
And also parents with complicated health issues how do they cope
Promote kids to next year from grade 1-11
It insane

I have 2 children age 7 and 12 how will anybody that did not give birth to them protect them like their own mother. Children dont understand social distancing. I dont care what the government say this is my childrens life we are talking about. I will be the one crying they will just make a speech and say our condolences to the parents. No way my children come first i live for my children I carried them in my body I care for them everyday. Im a single parent I still care for my children. I dont receive any sassa for my children i work and care for my children myself so this put me in the position to decide life over school.

I think it is irresponsible to send kids to school while parents still remain at home or go to work in phases. If we think adults cant go back to work enmasse and keep social distance regulations, what in the hell makes us think children who want run around and play hand tennis, and share their water bottle (by the way tobacco is still banned because we are afraid adults will share ciggies) and sandwiches are safe. When us adults can't stand a mask for a few hours and expect kids to wear a mask for the day. I'd rather have a healthy, living child repeating a grade or whatever than to have a dead child that got halfway through GR 4 Maths.
