This is absolutely outrageous!!! Dog was in his own yard not our roaming bitting people! The person was trespassing they are in the wrong not the dog!!! Give this family back their dog!(Adelaide, 2017-09-13)
#6005
Maybe we could all storm the council pound then all get bitten then does that mean the council would get a $1500 fine per person per bite from the animals we released on their property?????Wake up Aus!!

This beautiful dog was doing his duty ! He was protecting his owners property in the only way he knew ! He deserves a medal and to live ! It is the intruder who is in the wrong ! What is the world coming to when we can turn a blind eye to the killing of an innocent creature doing what any dog would do in the circumstances ! Let this poor animal go home to his family ! Surely we have not stooped so low as to murder a creature doing what is his duty !(Hay, 2017-09-13)

He deserves our voice and our help also a good dog lawyer . Bret Melke here in Melb is good maybe he can give advice via phone or email because this should not be happening. I dont know about QLD but in Vic we have domestic animals act and I think its section 94 you need to read .(Melbourne, 2017-09-13)
#6031
I believe this is dog should be put down, for protecting his property. The dog is simply defending his area, and if the intruder had not have been there in the middle of the night, the dog would not have done this. The offender should be the one punished. We get dogs to protect our family and house, as well as for companionship, and by putting this dog to sleep, not only will you be killing a family member, your also allowing the unsavoury in our communities to have access to do god knows what. This is extremely unfair.(Port douglas, 2017-09-13)
#6032
It's about time people take responsibility for their actions and stop blaming and/or attacking animals for protecting their homes and families. If people would have respect or be punished for trespassing ect then this wouldn't be a problem now.
Stop killing our dogs who are as much a part of our family as kids

If someone enters your property during the night with the intention of breaking the law & you have a dog for the purpose of protecting your property & belongings & the dog bites the intruder then the dog has done his job. Where are the home owners rights when you cant protect your property & belongings.(Mackay, 2017-09-13)
#6047
People AND their dogs have the right to protect their property! The dog was doing his job. The intruding human is the one who should be punished. Do not punish the good guard dog and his children for him doing his job.(Narrikup, 2017-09-13)

Im sigining this because I also love dogs. And you know dogs are playful with their owner. But when dog felt danger for their owner they will bite you and risk their own life for you. Dogs are loyal, loyal than human. It's just kinda like this if human felt danger or someone trying to hurt you. Im sure you will fight back right because that is our way of selfdefence. But dog bites for selfdefence. COUNCIL SHOULD NOT KILL THIS DOG BECAUSE, LIKE A POLICE HE RISK HIS LIFE TO PROTECT.(Mackay, 2017-09-13)

Winston & All Dogs/Animals are Members of our families... He did what ANY & ALL family member/s wld have done.. & that was to protect his loved ones & property/home from an intruder... I wld attack any intruder that stepped on my property to protect my family.. wld I be seized & be classified as dangerous???Dangerous if that's what u call a family member protecting their loved ones & not allowing an intruder onto private property... I'd be very proud of Winston if he was a member of my family, for protecting us.. He risked his on life by protecting his family.. who knows what weapon the intruder may have had.. Has anybody considered this???
(Melbourne, 2017-09-13)
#6067
If someone enters another person's property unlawfully and without permission, surely they forfeit the right to make a complaint against a family pet defending the property? What punishment has been issued to the trespasser, since they've admitted via the accusation against the dog that they actually were trespassing? And how can you sentence this dog to die when effectively all it did was in self-defence - why is an excuse of self-defence only applicable for humans?(Kununurra, 2017-09-13)

We have no guns to protect ourselves and now you are trying to take the family pets. The government has lost the plot. If they enter your yard with contemp who's fault is it if they get attacked. Certainly the dog or the people that live there. WHY protect the bloody criminals.(Theodore, 2017-09-13)
#6124
Im fed up with people being penalised for protecting their property. Winston was just doing his job. Wake up council!(Proserpine, 2017-09-13)
#6125
This dog, who is obviously loved by his family, did the only thing he knew how to protect them. Dogs dont carry guns or tazers and to the best of my knowledge they cant use a phone to call the police so Winston did the best he could at the time with what he has. Its his natural defence ! What if that intruder had taken a child or some other horrible deed? Winston is a hero.. THE INTRUDER IS THE CRIMINAL.... not the dog. We rehabilitate humans that have done worse... not kill them.... from the photo Winston looks to be playing happily with the kids...he doesnt appear psycho vicious?? Whilst i think owners should be responsible to keep thier dogs, especially if a bit snappy, safely behind a fence in thier yard etc .. i also believe people who are not invited in should stay on the other side of that fence! if the council is worried how he is with other dogs or people perhaps just put a muzzle thing on when out of the yard?? The intruder MADE HIS choice to enter a yard fully knowing he wasnt invited... WRONG STUPID choice... maybe Winstons actions might have taught the idiot something and prevent him from doing it to someone else?(Woody Point, 2017-09-13)
#6129
If a person can beat there child almost to death and not get jail time, if a pedophile can get a slap on the wrist and be sent back out into the community. Why does this dog not get a second chance?(Maryborough, 2017-09-13)
#6134
The dog has no history of violence. The dog should get a medal if it bit an intruder. Where is your common sense? DONT YOU DARE DESTROY THIS ANIMAL WHO WAS ONLY DOING HIS JOB!!(Townsville, 2017-09-13)

You have a dog in your yard to protect you and your family his doing his job simple(Cairns, 2017-09-13)
#6158
I believe that if a dog bites a person entering someone else's property uninvited or unwanted, then the dog is simply protecting the property and there should be no legal recourse for the action. No dog should be seized and/or have it's life terminated due to such an action as it is protecting it's owner/s and their property.I find it contradictory when Insurance companies take into account if policy holders have a dog on the premises (to protect said premises) and yet Councils take an opposing view.
(Wooli, 2017-09-13)
#6160
This is rediculous!(Kirwan, 2017-09-13)
#6164
This is wrong in every way possible. He was in his own yard. The intruder was in his yard and for all they know Winston may also have been hit or attacked by the intruder. So he may not only have been trying to protect his family, but defending himself. There has also been a number of animal cruelty cases reported in the area and they have been random and on the animal in their oen backyard. Where is the proof that he was not provoked?? Clearly he was... grr(Mackay, 2017-09-13)
#6167
The dog was doing the right thing biting and intruder and my dog and me would do the same thing. If I had someone break into my house I'd shoot them too. Does that mean murder??? Well they shouldn't be doing these things in the first place!!!(Ayr, 2017-09-13)

I'm signing the petition because Winston was protecting his property and family. No one has the right to trespass on anyone else's property. This is Winston's home, he was doing his job protecting his family. It doesn't make sense to kill an innocent animal, have compassion and look at the positive of his actions , protecting society.(Victoria, 2017-09-13)
