We all want justice for Anton, how can these people just get away with this and murder an innocent person? They need to go back and review their practices and fix this.

A dear friend, who I have known most of my life was murdered. Anton was a good guy, kind, respectful, lighthearted, non confrontational and non aggressive. That’s why he had so many friends and so many people who knew and loved him. He was murdered by 3 dishonourable punks, who ganged up on him and stabbed him not once but multiple times in the head chest and neck. These wounds indicate an intent to kill. One cannot simply raise self-defence in a killing and go without scrutiny. What are the prosecutors and investigators in this case thinking? Are they rookies, incompetent or both? Who are these murderers, and are they related to anyone in law enforcement? Something stinks here. We want to see murder charges brought forward and tried by a judge.

This does not meet the standard for self defence. To maintain a fair, equitable, and just society, justice must be served and run its due course.

I want to feel safe in our parks. People who bring weapons to public spaces and use them should be held to account. There were three against one. No one needed to take out a knife. Anton deserves justice.

Someone who has stabbed someone else needs to be accountable for their actions. This is completely unacceptable of the justice system to not ensure that this won't repeat itself.

This is a heartbreaking story and I'm so sorry they lost their son.

Criminals must not go unpunished. When a peaceful citizen can not simply talk to other people without being attacked and brutally killed, then our justice system is failing. This case must go to court for the judge and jury to decide the fate of the three attackers - this is murder we are talking about not a purse theft - this is serious and should be handled as such in the court of law.

Diana Lobach (Chilliwack, 2023-04-08)

I knew Anton from high school. He was always a fun-loving and good guy. His murderers need to be held accountable. RIP Anton.

Sydney Cook (Campbell River, 2023-04-08)

Dear Niki Sharma,

This is more evidence of the disintegration of our criminal justice system and the rule of law in this country. Without the rule of law and and sincere public trust in the law, a society reverts to lynch mobs and vigilante justice to settle wrongdoing. Without the rule of law and confidence in authority, people are forced to rely upon private security details, militias for hire and criminal syndicates to protect their interests. This is prolific in much of the developing world today. I have visited a lot of countries where the majority of middle class people build brick and concrete walls around their homes topped with glass or razor wire. Countries where there are guards with rifles at every gas station, bank, school or public institution. These practices are commonplace throughout the world in countries with impotent, corrupt legal systems or low public trust in the legal system and enforcement. A precedent of leniency and permissiveness erodes social stability, faith in our institutions and allegiance to the state.

Nearly half of this country is not confident in the justice system:

justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/jr/NJS-SNJ.html#njs2022

Violent crime in Vancouver rose 4.1% from 2021 to 2022 and is up 12.1% compared to pre-pandemic levels:

vancouverpoliceboard.ca/police/policeboard/agenda/2023/0223/Year-End%202022%20PSI%20Report%20FINAL%20TO%20BOARD.pdf

Public order must be enforced through the authority of the state if we are to call ourselves a civil society. Demonstrate that the justice system in this country has some integrity. Restore some public faith in our institutions and bring this case before the court!

Sincerely,
Michael Bohn
