Its becuase Social Workers are not classified in the same catorgory as Phsychologist yet we do more work .The osd is irrational you need 20 yrs to be a senoir social worker but to be a supervisor its 7 years and manager is 10 yrs .This must be corrected and 3 yrs must be for grade 2 .Social workers must be employed .Department of education need more Social Workers because there is direct contact with children and the level of social ills reflect the need in schools hence we are currently operating against the norm to the population as we are one Social Worker perdistrict.Population size must be taken into consideration when marking work study or organogram for social work post .

I'm employed in an NGO,i've been working there for 8 years now with the same salary ever since i started working.New people have been employed in my presence and somehow their salaries are more than what i earn. The organisation is not transparent with its comings and goings. The non driving staff is made to pay the drivers' salaries frm their own salaries when the drivers are subsidised by DSD. We as the workers have not received any increament frm Deoartment of Social Develooment for four years now.The cars we use are in a terrible state, some of the offices dont have aircons, two workers share one telephone line and two workers in one office. We do not have access to email, fax nor wifi, only three people in the whole office have access to that and as a result when their not at work and ther's an urgent referral frm outside we wait until they are available same goes for when we want ti send faxes or emails, the list is endless!

#3550

Social Workers, receive my warm greetings. I write this piece of work as an eye opener to those who are about to be made fools. Social Workers allow me to give you facts about brainless individuals who call themselves leaders. I don’t blame them for calling themselves leaders because they don’t know the definition of a leader. The South Africa Constitution, Chapter 2 contains the Bill of Rights which spells out the rights of people that must be protected and respected but Government. These includes the rights of equal treatment and non discrimination regardless of race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethinc or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language and birth. It also guarantees freedom of movement and speech, freedom to form and join organizations, freedom of religion and rights to access basic service, education and healthcare.

BACKGROUND
Social Workers how could we allow something like this without pumping our fists now this is our final hour let me be the voice in your strength and your choice.
Purpose
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Social Workers in KZN to the Republic for which it stands “One nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all”. I give sight to the blind, my insight through the mind I exercise my right to express when I feel it's time just let it gradually build from the front to the back.

All you can see is a sea of people some white and some black don't matter what color, all that matters we gathered together To celebrate for the same cause don't matter the weather If it rains let it rain, yeah the wetter the better.
Notch Level
As Social Workers we feel that notch level must move from level 07 to level 08 as other governments departments.
Danger Allowance and Rural Allowance
As Social Workers we feel that we are equal in the work place and we demand that Danger Allowance should be provided to all Social Workers as it is for the Probation Officers and the issues of Rural Allowance should be provided as well.
Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD)
We also feel that the OSD Document must be reviewed urgently and if possible this OSD should be stopped with immediate effect. The resolution 1 of 2009 of the Public Health and Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council (PHSDSBC) page 10 that was signed 04 June 2009. We feel that this document was signed without the mandate of the Social Workers and we need to review this document urgent.
Over time
Overtime is the amount of time someone works beyond normal working hours. As Social Workers we are also entitled to overtime pay. It is very saddening to note that as Social Worker we dont get paid for overtime. Our normal working hours are from 08h00 till 16h30. However because of the work load we end up working more hours than required, sometimes we work till 19h00 but we dont get paid for overtime. We request that this matter should be taken into concideration. If there is any training, workshop, meeting or anything related to work that will require us to start work early and finish late, that should be added to our overtime pay as well.
Equal Work and Equal Pay (ward base)
As Social Workers we say “nothing about us without us” we feel tha the decision to put this ward base program into practice was taken without consulting with the Social Workers and a Union. We demand that this program should be stopped with immediate effect hence most of us if not all of us dont know how this program works. There is not even a policy document about this ward base program. We also request that we should not be threatened to lose our jobs if we raise our concerns.
Resources
The Department lacks resources that enable the employees to provide service delivery to the people. The resource shortage also increases employees’ job stress, which consequently affects the quality of their work. High-quality outputs (services) require high-quality inputs. Working with low quality material decreases employees’ productivity. The equipments are very old.
Resolutions of the Social Workers Indaba that were taken in 2013 and 2015.
We feel that all resolutions that were taken in Social Worker Indaba must be implentented now. This resolutions were taken in 2013 and some were taken in 2015 but in 2017 nothing have be implemented. One of the resolution was that all Managers or District Direct that don’t not have Social Worker Qualification must not occupy those position. We demand that by 31 March, 2017 those Manager’s and Directors who dont have required qualifications for their positions must be demoted to lower positions. The minimum qualification should be a degree. i.e B A in Social Worker.
