I'm type 1 diabetic and struggling, this device would help people like me with type 1 diabetes, as it's able to to give doctors easy access to H1C readings reducing the need to visit the hospital to have bloods taken prior to seeing your specialist consultant. Also, a finger prick free device is a God send especially to young children and adults alike living with this difficult condition.

I have an 11year old daughter with type 1 diabetes. The Freestyle Libra has changed her (and our) life, it is fantastic technology and is helping bring her HBA1C down. Such a shame such technology is not affordable to everyday families.

i think it would help with control for my 17 ty old T1 who at the moment doesn't have great control and was in hospital with DKA during the summer

After 26 years with T1D, this device has completely changed the way I manage it. I have learned more about how insulin & blood glucose behave in the last year than in the previous 26. This device will improve every user's control & save the health service a great deal of money and resources in the long-term.

My 2 sons are type 1 diabetic and the freestyle liver will offer us more information to make educated and informed decisions in relation to their care and ultimately offer better control over blood sugars reducing the chances of long term complications.

It's ease of use would see self caring diabetics will be more inclined to proactively manage their condition resulting in decreased costs to the state long term . No child in this day and age should need to continually stick needles in their fingers

(Kenmare, 2017-02-07)

This new blood sugar monitoring system is a huge development in monitoring and controlling T1 diabetes and is not covered by the HSE LTI scheme. The cost is €130+ per month and is not covered by the drug payment scheme either. It will reduce costs for the HSE in the long run.

(Templemore, 2017-02-08)

#2927

I have diabetes but as a student I cannot afford to pay over €120 a month for the freestyle libre which would greatly improve my diabetes control. I am choosing between paying bills and my health. It seems cruel to me that this is available but at a cost I cannot afford.

(Dublin, 2017-02-08)

My ten year old son has type one, he goes threw so much every day, with finger pricks, can be 8/10 a day, his small fingers are not copeing v well, this would be a god send to him and other type one children and adults.

(Waterford, 2017-02-08)

#2957

As a healthcare professional and a Mum, I cannot emphasise how unfair I feel this is. For adults and parents of diabetic children who have financial means this fantastic kit is available to them. For those who cannot afford this option, they, are left with the very intrusive and painful option of countless finger stabs per day.

(Dromahair, 2017-02-08)

I am type 1 diabetic and would love this to be available on the long term illness cover. Better controlled diabetes will mean better health for diabetics so less time and expense for the government long term. As the old expression goes....a stitch in time saves nine! C'mon HSE, you need to free up hospital beds.
