Stop the solar farm next to Barnsdale Gardens

Barnsdale Gardens is one of the most beautiful wildlife friendly spaces. To destroy it by putting up solar panels nearby is insanity. There has to be a better site for the panels. Greedy despicable people usually win in these fights. I hope this is an exception.

Patricia Hodson (Loughborough, 2023-08-24)

#2202

I think it is wrong to replace this beautiful garden with solar panels!

It is a big attraction for the area, because of it’s history with Geoff Hamilton.

Jan Morris (Ventnor, 2023-08-24)

#2203

I believe that in this country there are many alternatives to solar sites than disturbing concentrated areas of wildlife and stimulation for families. I am sure there a more appropriate sites close by for an alternative site if that area is vital for a solar farm. We have solar farms in my area without the necessity to disturb long time ownership of surrounding properties.

Gwynneth Bean (Rhosneigr, 2023-08-24)

#2204

I would hate for the gardens to close.

Kathryn McKee (Lincoln, 2023-08-25)

#2205

I have been asked to support Barnsdale Gardens who believe it is a threat to their business. I have followed the progress of Nick and his father for many years and appreciate the importance of all the hard work gone into growing the business and the pleasures it has bought many visitors, including myself and my family and want this to remain the case for the many generations to come.

Stewart Mayhew (Nottingham, 2023-08-25)

#2206

Barnsdale Gardens is a beautiful wildlife friendly place which has been nurtured over many years. Solar Farms have there valuable place today BUT it is not at the risk of damaging this special garden.

Joyce Parker (Leicestershire, 2023-08-25)

Geoff Hamilton was the very best TV garden presenter ever, and we adored him and were greatly inspired by him and his programmes

Gwenda Sippings (Aberystwyth, 2023-08-25)

#2209

To close one natural resource to make room for another makes no sense. There is no need to take green space for solar farms when there is so much urban space available, and to force the gardens to close would be tragic!

Laura Fearick (Nottingham, 2023-08-26)

#2210

Barnsdale is an important garden and nature reserve.

I don’t agree that a private enterprise like Barnsdale, which is important for conservation and biodiversity, should be threatened by a huge development of questionable validity.

Jackie Waters (Harwich, 2023-08-27)

#2218

I object to the use of the English Countryside for the unsustainable use of Solar Farms which blight the environment and the beauty of our unique island, whilst marginalising wildlife & reducing self sufficiency of the nations food production by consuming farmland.

#2219

Barnsdale means so much to so many people.

James Hunt (Essex, 2023-08-28)

Jennifer Roberts (Preston, 2023-08-30)

#2229

I’m signing because Barnsdale Gardens MUST NOT close!! It’s an important horticultural site and asset for now and future generations! Geoff Hamilton pioneered the way forward in gardening way before his time and this must continue to teach and inspire for the future of all of us!

Wayne Attwell (Birchington, 2023-08-30)

This is a wonderful garden full of polliaters it would be terrible to the local wildlife life if this was to close.

madalene Jakeman (Peterborough, 2023-08-31)

#2232

Barnsdale Gardens is an icon and there is no other place like it in the area offering the peace and tranquility of beautiful flowers and wildlife.

Christopher Randell (Stamford, 2023-08-31)

#2233

I don’t agree with the proposed solar panel development. There are better sites for it. It would be extremely detrimental to Barnsdale gardens which should be preserved for the public.

Christine Newton (Nottingham, 2023-08-31)

#2234

(1) The UK is already a nature-deprived country and this development, on this scale and location, will be particularly damaging (2) The development is insensitive to the longstanding gardens to which it will be adjacent.

Peter Waugh (Newcastle upon Tyne, 2023-08-31)

#2235

We have many solar farms in the region already and some spaces should remain proetectdd

Angela Birch (Market Harborough, 2023-09-01)

The negative effect that this development will have on this long standing and reputable business will be enormous.

Stephen Jeal (Melton Mowbray, 2023-09-02)

Lydia Burchnall (Market Harborough, 2023-09-03)

#2249

I want to save the beautiful Barnsdale Gardens.

Lesley Hayes (Bedford, 2023-09-04)

#2250

I went to the Barnsdale nursery when it was in its infancy and Geoff Hamilton was very much alive. Besides his legacy being maintained, I feel very strongly that solar ‘farms’ should not be sited on green field agricultural sites, especially on high grade land. 81 hectares is simply enormous. I’m sure the applicant says economy of scale is essential, but this proposed installation is HUGE. It’s also very near Rutland Water, which will doubtless have a deleterious effect on it’s amenity value.

C Howell (Spalding, 2023-09-04)

#2251

I'm signing because these gardens are beautiful and need to be preserved. They are also a legacy that requires keeping. Please don't allow this solar farm to be so close to these memorable gardens.

Linda Rutland (Cambridge, 2023-09-04)

#2252

It’s shocking the disregard for the community and the environment when making these decisions. Greater consideration and respect is required from planners snd developers.

Anthony Halifax Halifax (Glasgow, 2023-09-04)

#2255

I love to visit

Ena Stansfield (Nottingham, 2023-09-06)

#2256

I have visited Barnsdale gardens many times and found it like no other.
Perfect peace, so much to see, multitude of ideas on layout, plants and planting schemes. Informative staff, excellent food. The perfect place to spend a day. I can no longer travel to Lincolnshire but would be desolate if the gardens closed when alternative site for solar panels is an obvious alternative.

Beryl Beckett (Basingstoke, 2023-09-06)

#2260

Barnsdale Gardens are a national treasure and NOTHING should be able to threaten their closure. There are plenty of other places where a solar farm could be established, thus leaving Barnsdale Gardens to remain for the thousands of people who will be able to continue to enjoy them in the future.

PAUL BERTENSHAW (RIPON, 2023-09-07)

#2262

We need all the outdoor space that we have dedicated to gardens that not only inspire but teach as well!

All of us who adore the very special tranquility of Barnsdale Gardens demand that all is preserved without compromise.

Laura Ward (Leicester, 2023-09-10)

#2274

The site may force the closure of Barnsdale Gardens as it would ruin the peace if the visitors. It ahould not be put where it puts another business in jeopardy and could ruin someone’s livelihood

Hannah Weston (Corby, 2023-09-10)

#2275

So much time and effort has been given to produce gardens that will inspire ordinary folk , but to lose the gardens for a money grabbing solar farm which contributes so little power as it’s dark half the time and all based on the premise that temperatures are rising due to co2 emissions which is untrue.

Barnsdale Garden is a fantastic legacy of the fantastic gardener Geoff Hamilton. They offer a great day out for visiting these peaceful and wonderful gardens. If the gardens are forced to close due to the proposed solar farm it will be a tragedy.

Eric Miller (Nottingham, 2023-09-13)

#2285

I had the great pleasure of visiting Barnsdale for tje first time in 2019 and, fulfilling a wish to see and experience what has become a valuable and important place for many of us and introduced to via Gardeners' World on tv. I was hugely impressed with everything about it and, what it represents. I had been.a huge admirer of Geoff Hamilton's for many years and his work ethos and passion for sustainability and using /making what was available to us in preference to traipsing round the countryside and 'stealing' the things that give this country of ours it's identity. The way his vast knowledge and informed judgement was shared by him with so many of us will always I shall hold dear.
His premature and untimely sudden deatd in 1996 has left a huge void in our lives. But, thanks to his family his legacy and work ethic continues at Barnsdale and it is my wish to support Nick in.trying to block the solar power development. There's far too much emphasis on riding rough-shod over businesses trying to maintain and continue valuable places which have taken many decades to.establish and are enjoyed by so many.
Good Luck, Nick with your mission.

Kelly Hymers (Lincoln, 2023-09-15)

#2290

Not only a wonderfully tranquil place and legacy of an inspirational gardener, but (because of Geoff Hamiltons inspiration) an absolute haven for bees and butterflies, species that we absolutely rely on for our existence. These may well go if barnsdale is lost

Amanda Kingsnorth (Thetford, 2023-09-16)

#2296

It seems a shame that dolar panels are in fields and not offered in good deals to be on people's roofs. All new properties should come with solar panels.

Judith Hope (Southminster, 2023-09-18)

#2297

I’m signing in support of existing local, rural businesses. I support a solar farm, but only if it is located somewhere that doesn’t impact an existing business.

Dena Patterson (Oakham, 2023-09-18)

#2300

I would like to prevent the closure of the gardens.

Liz Brooks (Atherstone, 2023-09-19)

#2301

We loved our visit to the garden and it is unique in its situation. The solar farm has many alternative situations possible, so bit of a no brained really

Robin Taylor (Hayling Island, 2023-09-19)

#2303

Barnsdale Garden is a vital part of our gardening legacy. It is essential that gardens like this are maintained and cultivated to show the benefits of eco-gardening and care of our native wildlife - particularly bees and other insects - without gardens like this many people would not understand the importance of growing plants that are beneficial to all. The importance of mental health and access to gardens such as these are important to all.

Joy Nudds (Sheerness, 2023-09-20)

#2305

The size and location of the proposed solar farm is totally inappropriate. I agree that renewable energy is necessary but the installation of solar farms in rural areas should only only be on poor quality farmland and be sensitive to existing residents and businesses.

John Testa (OAKHAM, 2023-09-21)

#2307

I believe that this isn’t the way forward . If you offered to pay for installation on houses and then lowered energy costs people would have them on existing houses rather than taking farm land or threatening businesses such as bans dale gardens.

Barry Dibble (Oakham, 2023-09-22)

#2309

Barnsdale Gardens could be irretrivably damaged

Joanna Brown (AYLESBURY, 2023-09-23)

#2310

Despite not being local it would be a tragedy for for a garden of such significance to be affected by the solar farm. The garden has a positive impact on the environment and wildlife. It seams contradictory to build a solar farm for environmental reasons when destroying the environment in doing so. It is also fundamental for the protection of our flora and fauna in the future that gardens such as Barnsdale are able to thrive for the public to visit, enjoy arm all ages with enthusiasm to garden and grow - they should be supported not threatened by such schemes

Michele Longden (Bolsover, 2023-09-23)

#2311

I'm signing because this garden is a lasting memory of a great gardener and human being, Geoff Hamilton. He was at the forefront of eco gardening, recycling, resusing and it would be heartbreaking if this wonderful facility and memorial to his life's work had to close because of the noise and disruption. I wholeheartedly agree with solar energy and have had solar panels for a few years. I fully support any initiative to increase our capacity for generating non-fossil fuelled energy but please take into consideration other issues. Surely an adjustment can be made size or positioning of the site so that the gardens can remain as peaceful as they are now. Thank you.

I support the garden owners of Barnsdale...a long established business sharing their gardens with the public and bringing great pleasure. The essence of what the gardens are about in a peaceful setting will be lost, not only in the construction phase but thereafter once up and running.

#2343

I’m signing because we need to protect our gardens. I understand solar is suppose to be cleaner but when you place it near beautiful gardens such as Barnsdale you are disrupting wildlife and and let’s face it our problems with the environment are our own doing. If this proposal is accepted, it could result in the closure of Barnsdale Gardens, which I and thousands of other people cherish as a beautiful and tranquil place to enjoy while remembering its creator, the legendary Geoff Hamilton of Gardeners' world fame. The noise from the solar farm will ruin all the enjoyment of this beautiful spot and very likely result in its closure due to a severe loss of visitors.
