Thea Du toit (Marble hall, 2020-04-10)

I'm signing this petition as I am a smoker myself living with smokers and fear that this could do more harm to people who have smoked for a long time rather then protecting the people

#2219

We are in lockdown... nothing to look forward to... we are addicted to smoking. It is essential to us and helps us relax. Why can't we smoke in our own properties? What is the use of banning this? We do no one harm ... but we get edgy if we can't enjoy smoking while having a braai with your family.. otber countries did not ban smoking?? So why, please why, is it banned in SA?

Monya Genis (Durban, 2020-04-10)

#2228

Smoking doesn't make u drunk and want to hug and kiss people.. Us that are smoking at home smoke alone so why should we suffer its not the same as booze. The booze ban can stay I hate alcohol but smoking. They 2 different things. There are people selling smokes at ridiculous prices what about the not so rich

Rynier Zwarts (Boksburg, 2020-04-10)

I'm a smoker and planned for 3 weeks only. Smoking is a coping mechanism for myself - I have a 34 yr old daughter diagnosed with an ultra rare disease with no cure and no life expectancy.

Fatima Belo (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2249

It's the citizens own right to decide if they want to smoke or not. Stopping the people from buying cigarettes won't cure their lungs in this short period of lockdown.. So the theory that it helps protect you is nonsense. Let the people buy their cigarettes.. They have nothing else to do at home to call. Their nerves and Covid-19 made their nerves go mad even more. Don't miss use Gov. Power

Marli Porter (Bethal, 2020-04-10)

#2250

I live with smokers that can become violent

Leatitia Van Straten (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2251

SA is loosing to much money by not selling cigarettes and we need that money right now. Also there is no reason to ban it. Make people buy food with the smokes.

Reinette Hartley (Centurion, 2020-04-10)

Im a smoker, and i will go nuts without a sigarette.

Chris Botha (Mokopane, 2020-04-10)

I'm a smoker and I don't see why it should be banned, it's a stress relief and we're not bothering anybody.

Sarah Scott (East London, 2020-04-10)

#2274

Just lift the ban

Anilesia Steenkamp (George, 2020-04-10)

#2275

I know a few smokers and used to be one. The ban on cigarettes does not make any sense. Why not use this time to rather stop the illegal drug trades? Tax on cigarettes wil go a long way in this difficult time.

Wanda Dick (Gauteng, 2020-04-10)

#2279

Smoking does not affect the COVID- 19 in any way whatsoever.

Elaine Botha (Benoni, 2020-04-10)

Smoking is a question of choise. Yes it is dangerous to your health, but non everybody who smokes, dies of lung cancer.
Laws are also in place to protect the none smoker, please be fair in regard to this issue

Mike Wright (Harties, 2020-04-10)

My poor family is suffering from MY withdrawal symptoms... Plus art supplies should be essential to keep people calm. We're not robots. We have feelings.

#2303

I am a smoker. Please let us buy sigarettes with our groceries.

Malinda Battiscombe (Secunda, 2020-04-10)

#2305

This is ridiculous and unconstitutional

Aldo Deventer (Springs, 2020-04-10)

#2306

By giving people this small gesture will go along way for the economy and also minimise the black market trade and encourage people to stay indoors.

Jeremy Hutton (Cape Town, 2020-04-10)

#2310

I have a right too in this country.

Karin Vermeulen (Oudtshoorn, 2020-04-10)

#2311

Im almost out of smokes

Dewald Scheepers (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2313

My husband and I both smoke and I have been cutting back far more than him. Gender based violence will rear its ugly head when I say no when he runs out of cigarettes

Susie Mullins (Kasouga, 2020-04-10)

#2315

I am in a current situation of a loved one that's not doing physically well because of withdrawal symptoms.

I'm a smoker.

Annesta van de Venter (Pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#2325

I cant see what harm smoking can do. No voilence or any accidents ever reported due to smoking

Christine Oosthuizen (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-10)

#2328

Smokers have rights too, withdrawal symptoms are bad, and it should be a smokers decision to quit, not a dilatation from anti smoking groups.

Naomi Coetzee (Germiston, 2020-04-10)

#2329

People are allowed to smoke!!!

Janelda Momberg (Benoni, 2020-04-10)

#2334

This is not fair to smoker's they didn't know before the lockdown. I am not a smoker but there is enough stress in households at the moment and can lead to domestic violence. Smoking is an addiction the same as food therefore I beg you Mr President Please lift the ban on cigarettes.
Many thanks

Petro Gouws (Centurion, 2020-04-10)

#2335

People getting withdrawal symptoms for not smoking. Getting irritated because we can't have a smoke. It's a stress relief. And with all the things going around we will appreciate it if you can lift the ban for not selling smokes

Riana Oosthuizen (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2336

Please add this to the essentials list as it would lessen the breaking of lock down rules to go and find cigarettes and also lessen the crime that comes from banning it.

Zunicka Jonker (Port Elizabeth, 2020-04-10)

#2337

Please you can't expect everyone to just stop smoking that is also not healthy or fair!!!!!

Janetta Willemse (Pretoria North, 2020-04-10)

#2338

Im signing because we currently have to make illegal plans to get tobacco where as if we could just buy them we would not have to break the law

Ruan Botes (Benoni, 2020-04-10)

#2340

You can not just stop it. It is not right.

David Robinson (East London, 2020-04-10)

#2342

Im.a smoker

Marlene Gibson (Gautemg, 2020-04-10)

#2343

I am a smoker and the economy is suffering R35 million rand a day fromthe non selling of cigarettes and being sold on the black market to criminals illegally. It can curb the black market industry and pump that money back into the economy where it is desperately needed

Angelique Botes (Pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#2347

Government needs money and the tax on cigarettes is a significant amount. Cigarettes are not going to affect lockdown and since we are in our own homes it is not going to affect others either.

Angelena Moir (Germiston, 2020-04-10)

#2348

My husband and me are both smokers and this smoke ban was announced @ 3o clock on the day before the lock down. It is also a way where our human rights is abused
Lift the ban and let us help this sinking economy of our country

Ansie Meintjes (Secunda, 2020-04-10)

#2349

I have a husband that smokes and he is extremely agitated and grumpy not easy for myself and my 3 kids during this lockdown

Melanie Pedersen (Maclear, 2020-04-10)

#2350

I smoke

Natasha Ashokumar (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2351

This ban on cigarettes is absolutely ridiculous and must be lifted. It’s our choice to smoke or not and it’s not up to the minister of police to decide that. He has turned it into illegality over night. NOT FAIR AND TOTALLY UNDEMOCRATIC!

Patty Pedretti (Cape Town, 2020-04-10)

#2352

I think that this ban is totally unnecessary and unfair to all smokers in the country and will only lead to looting and black marketing.

Eric Torr (Kempton Park, 2020-04-10)

#2353

When smokers cant smoke their frustrations rise and with lockdown stress it makes it worst for people in the home.

Marlene de Lange (Kempton park, 2020-04-10)

#2357

I am a smoker and agree 100% that we are suffering 🙁😬

Coletté Klopper (Benoni, 2020-04-10)

#2360

Although i don't use tobacco or liquor I feel that it is wrong to deprive anyone the right to either.
Minister Beki Cele is completely stupid thinking he can force his will and prejudices on the population at large.
He has put a target on liquor stores and he alone is responsible for all the break ins and looting of liquor stores.
It is only a matter of time and he will also be responsible for large scale theft of tobacco products as well.
In my opinion he should be personally held accountable for these loses.

Richard Trollope (Benoni, 2020-04-10)

#2362

This is an infringement of my right as a responsible adult. You are forcing me to support the black market.

Marie Bertrand (Pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#2367

its cruel

Ronel Bothma (Springs, 2020-04-10)

dries louw (pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#2371

This is not easy for smoker to go without sigarets.
So why try to catch us, just put it back on the shelfs.

Susaar Steyn (Secunda, 2020-04-10)

#2373

I am a smoker and it really is a stress relief. Currently what I am aware is SA is losing a lot of capital by not selling tabacco products

Johan van Huyssteen (Secunda, 2020-04-10)

#2374

I'm signing because I smoke for stres relief and can't use any anti depresant medicine, because I am allergic to something in anti depresants.

#2380

We not prepared for a extra 14 days!

Craig Langman (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2382

I'm not a smoker, but know that cigarettes are an essential in the life of a smoker

Beth Adamson (Springs, 2020-04-10)

#2384

I don't want chao's in our country caused by addicts striking to have alcohol and cigarettes sold, so that they stay in peace at home with all they need, and I believe if the president can allow this on a 2-day supervision, maybe on a Friday and Saturday, I believe this could slightly assist our economy, considering the sales volume of just those 2working days, Black Friday can be one example

Andile Phillip (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2386

We as smokers imagin taking the only thing you can do away from you that you addicted to away from you do you know how many ppl will have fights and how it feels like to have cravings no I guess you don't know that feeling it's like taking away all you're kids toys away from him or hur and say that is now illegal to play with for the rest of there life's

Damian Mcheath (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

#2393

Its an abuse to leave tobacco smokers without access to cigarettes. The withdrawal symptoms are awful and make the user aggro, thus adding to the stress of the lockdown.

Janet Longman (Betty's Bay, 2020-04-11)

#2396

I don't see why tobacco should be banned. We are going through a stressful time and for smokers this will have a bad impact

Sylvia Ronald (Johannesburg, 2020-04-11)

#2398

Please please lift the ban let we can buy smokes

Amanda Wolvaardt (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-11)
