Stop the solar farm next to Barnsdale Gardens

Comments

#2001

Barnsdale gardens should be considered as a major artwork or cultural artefact. Other locations for a solar farm are possible, but not for the gardens.

Melanie Pope (Nottingham, 2023-07-19)

#2003

Solar farms should never be built on agricultural land while we are building houses without them, and have acres of commercial roof space available. This proposal is not about saving the planet, it’s about self-interested profit.

Janet Taylor (Oakham, 2023-07-19)

#2004

Barnsdale Gardens are a part of history in Oakham and Rutland, offering visitors a place to appreciate nature and wildlife. The building of a large solar farm would completely destroy the natural habitats for wildlife and I believe many visitors to Barnsdale would stop going with the inevitable closure of Barnsdale. I am sure there must be alternative, more suitable local fields to build a solar farm and hope that the local authority along wih Exton will come up with an alternative.

Patricia Graham (retford, 2023-07-20)

#2005

I care for Barnsdale and its legacy. It’s very important for the future generations.

Darshna Vadera (London, 2023-07-20)

#2009

I enjoy coming to Barnsdale Gardens for tranquility, which I believe will be lost if a solar farm is constructed nearby.

Sarah Tuffin (Peterborough, 2023-07-20)

#2010

Barnsdale is a beautiful, tranquil site, rich in wildlife & should be left as such.

Carol Parkes (Brixham, 2023-07-20)

#2011

This isn't the right place for solar panels, nature needs to live on this land.

Carrie Wyatt (Rugby, 2023-07-20)

#2012

I don’t like solar panels

Dru Marshall (Nottingham, 2023-07-20)

#2013

Solar panels should be used to benefit the local community...not large business.

J c copas (Oakham, 2023-07-20)

#2015

I am astounded that good agricultural land can be sacrificed in this way resulting in unnecessary food imports. I am also upset at the negative impact this will have on Barnsdale Gardens. A place of beauty, relaxation and education.

Susan Powis-Rawnsley (Oakham, 2023-07-20)

#2017

It would be devastating to people all over the country if such an iconic garden had to close .

Joy Ashley (Dorchester, 2023-07-20)

#2018

It’s not ethical and will ruin the area

Hazel Pickard (Melton Mowbray, 2023-07-20)

#2025

Of wildlife implications.

Joanne Pedder (Duddington, 2023-07-20)

#2029

While renewable energy is important, there are many ways to obtain it without destroying the very environment it's intended to preserve. This proposal is one of those.

Norman Fox (Needham market, 2023-07-21)

#2032

I agree with the petition. Filling industrial and retail roofs first would make more sense. Destroying the countryside doesn’t.

Jim Atack (Oakham, 2023-07-21)

#2034

I am signing this to preserve the outlook of Barnsdale which has been present for many years. I am all for solar farms but they should be situated away from businesses.

Kwok Yau (Rutland, 2023-07-21)

#2035

I’m signing because it is outrageous that the landowner is not seeking to do this in a less controversial area. And in addition to ruining the gardens, it will damage biodiversity and harm wildlife Rutland County Council need to refuse the scheme. To be clear, I am in favour of solar wind farms but only in the appropriate locations.

Alison Homewood (London, 2023-07-21)

#2036

I am signing as I would hate Barnsdale to have to close. This garden was the life work of a wonderful gardener and gives pleasure to many. Solar farms are ugly and cover prime land. I am anti solar farms in areas of beauty as this is.

Rosemary Allen (Royston, 2023-07-22)

#2038

This would be a terrible loss if the garden were to close and solar panels are a blight on the landscape.

Elizabeth Allen (Haddenham, Ely, 2023-07-22)

#2041

I want to save Barnsdale from nearby development.

James Steed (Bacton, 2023-07-22)

#2044

I love Barnsdale gardens and would hate for them to be impacted by this solar project - it would be tragic if they were forced to close as the gardens have been grown and tended over many decades.

Marie-therese King (Malvern, 2023-07-22)

#2045

Barnsdale gives a peaceful and beautiful place for people to go to In these hectic times . It is a haven for insects and bird and people.

Linda Papworth (Lincoln, 2023-07-23)

#2047

A field of glass is no substitute for lost crop growing farm land. It robs nature of yet more refuges and is visually unattractive. Solar panels should be fitted to every roof instead.

Jon Bate (Dervy, 2023-07-23)

#2048

Barnsdale is an asset and also eco frienly and should not be forced to close

Geoffrey Carr (Coventry, 2023-07-23)

#2049

These gardens provide a wonderful example of garden design and management “in the flesh” as it were rather than through technical media

Barry Pearce (Bedford, 2023-07-23)

#2051

Barnsdale is a wonderful haven of beauty and tranquility which will be adversely affected by the solar farm. There are much better places in Rutland for the solar farm to be sited so that the legacy of Geoff Hamilton will be preserved for many years to come.

Ruth Painter (Market Harborough, 2023-07-23)

#2052

I love this haven, so peaceful.

Linda ROBINSON (MARCH, 2023-07-23)

#2053

Barnsdale Gardens are an amazing display of what can be done with outside spaces around any home. Inspirational, calming and a beautiful place to visit. It was be tragedy if the solar farm development was to result in the loss of this wonderful Rutland gem. There is no doubt that allowing it to go ahead can only cause damage and maybe even disaster to this tranquil place of nature.

Anne Hatt (Broadstairs, 2023-07-23)

#2054

Totally in the wrong place

Sue Swinton (Leicester, 2023-07-23)

#2056

I remember the tv programme, also my Dad loved this place , it’s a very beautiful place .

Margaret Gates (St Neots, 2023-07-24)

#2057

I have bought some wonderful plants from Barnsdale Nurseries and it would be a gross injustice if the nursery was forced to close. There is not a shortage of land on which to put solar panel farms.

Alastair Hall (Wells, 2023-07-24)

#2058

There are so many roofs and other areas that could and should be used for solar power.

Sue Bell (Melton Mowbray, 2023-07-24)

#2060

I believe it is important to preserve these beautiful gardens which are irreplaceable

Julie Featherstone (Loughborough, 2023-07-25)

#2061

We need more peaceful and beautiful places to visit... Not more money in shareholders pockets!!!

Samantha Dickens (West Hallam, 2023-07-25)

#2062

I feel gardens are good for mental health and should be maintained

Ryan Ryder (Bicker, 2023-07-25)

STEPHEN THORNBURROW (LEEDS, 2023-07-25)

#2064

I think there are better sites for this.

Tara Darlington (Oakham, 2023-07-26)

#2066

All garden space is valuable along with any business associated with that space

Stephen Burn (London, 2023-07-26)

#2069

The garden is a lovely peaceful place to visit and any disturbance would be devastating for all the flora and fauna.

Margaret Rodgers (Leicester, 2023-07-26)

#2070

It’s a beautiful place and it shouldn’t be closed down. Find somewhere else solar panels. We need plants and greenery to help the wildlife ect…

Claire Sadler (Leicester, 2023-07-27)

#2071

This is inappropriate to place it next to these iconic gardens

Neil Tipping (Worcester, 2023-07-27)

#2073

This would negatively impact Barnsdale Gardens and there gardens add much to the environment

Catherine Evans (Market Deeping, 2023-07-29)

#2075

The gardens inspire so.many to care for the environment, plant trees and grow their own food.

Alison Scott (Huntingdon, 2023-07-29)

#2076

The continuing devastation of prime land & environment for obsessive deployment of Solar Panels has gone too far. This scheme should be stopped.

Keith Rossiter (Lincoln, 2023-07-29)

#2077

I don’t want Barnsdale to close.

Louise Foster (Mickleton, 2023-07-30)

#2078

Barnsdale is part of British garden and horticulture history, having grown up watching Geoff Hamilton with my dad on gardeners world, and I have visited Barnsdale on 3 occasions to get inspiration and enjoy what Geoff, and now his family have built. I visited the garden yesterday with my sons and daughter in laws who also very much enjoyed it, Barnsdale should be able to remain where it is for generations to enjoy for years to come. Nothing wrong with Solar farms but do not build them where they will severely impact an established business, and British Treasure !!

Mark Howe (Norwich, 2023-07-30)

#2082

I love Barnsdale and visit on a regular basis with our annual ticket. We do not want the garden to close and are against the solar farm being built next to the garden forcing a possible closure.

steven smith (great glen, 2023-07-31)

#2084

Need to keep open spaces and local businesses going for everyone

Jeanette Wilson (Loughborough, 2023-08-01)

#2087

I do not want Barnsdale to close.

Clare Gill (Nottingham, 2023-08-01)

#2088

I totally disagree with using prime farming land for solar farms

Brian Rolfe (Oakham, 2023-08-02)

#2091

Barnsdale is worth retaining as a flagship of enterprising gardening for all. There are other places for progressing solar contracts.

Loraine Powell (Ilkley, 2023-08-04)

#2092

This has been my sanctuary in the whole of East Northants County there is no where else like Barnsdale Gardens. I'd be heartbroken if it was taken away.

Orla McGrath (Northants, 2023-08-06)

#2097

The forced closure of Barnsdale Gardens would be a tragic loss to the country. It provides wonderful inspiration for the many many visitors

Rachel Edwards (Pewsey, 2023-08-06)

#2098

I don’t want barnsdale to close

Howard Nelson (Grantham, 2023-08-06)

#2099

Barnsdale Gardens should not be threatened when more suitable terrain is available for a solar farm

Margaret Alton (Barnsley, 2023-08-07)

#2101

To stop garden closing

David Barber (Hinckley, 2023-08-07)

#2103

There has to be greater control over the placement of solar farms and also of personal solar panel on, and around, private dwellings. Without more control, personal liberties will be further eroded in different ways.

Frank Jackson (Bromham, 2023-08-08)

#2105

There would be a considerable amount of noise from the panels.
This would frighten off birds and other wildlife in the garden. Also visiting Barnsdale Gardens would not be enjoyed by the public as it would ruin the peace for visitors. Also the legacy of Geoff Hamilton was to preserve a valuable local resource of nature and tranquillity and if the solar farm was built here this would all be for nothing. Although I am all for renewable energy careful consideration must be taken on where a solar farm is placed. This is a area of peace and beauty and it should not be put here.

Teresa Clark (Ringwood, 2023-08-08)

#2106

I don't want the countryside ruined by unsightly solar panels, destroying the habitat for our wildlife

Victoria Gosden (MARKET HARBOROUGH, 2023-08-08)

#2108

Whilst important these types of development have to positioned carefully. Windfarms are a far better option for the UK. Barnsdale is an important institution in what should be a protected environment

Stephen O’Neill (Northampton, 2023-08-09)

#2111

I visited Barnsdale Gardens last year and thought it was a unique and extremely interesting place. I have not been anywhere that has such a varied collection of ‘rooms’ which can inspire gardeners, delight non-gardeners and provide a variety of habitats for wildlife. It would be criminal if Barnsdale was ruined by a solar farm which could be sighted elsewhere. How ironic would that be, if a Green project destroyed another existing and beautiful one.

Gillian Beeke (Burnley, 2023-08-09)

#2113

I believe it should be saved for the nation

John Hill (St neots, 2023-08-10)

#2114

I am signing because Barnsdale is a wonderful legacy and place of remembrance for the wonderful Geoff Hamilton.
To spoil his garden and cause it to close would be thoughtleds and just dreadful.

Naomi Saul (Hitchin, 2023-08-10)

#2117

Barnsdale is a wonderful haven of peace and tranquility and an amazing place for people and nature to commune.
Solar energy is vital for us to save that natural environment but having the solar farm this close may force Barnsdale gardens to close, driving people away from the appreciation of nature, which, in my eyes, does not make sense.

Dave Kitching (Melton Mowbray, 2023-08-11)

#2118

It would be a travesty if this proposal was to go ahead which adversely impact a valuable educational resource that is loved by family members of all ages

DAVID PELLATT (HARLOW, 2023-08-12)

#2119

I am opposed to solar farms in principle, but in this case the Garden provides pleasure and a place for relaxation that no solar farm could. Let,'s protect our invaluable green spaces.

Richard Bracknall (Saltburn, 2023-08-12)

#2120

The impact of a solar farm on its environment must be properly assessed. Barnsdale is totally unsuitable in a valuable tourist hot spot as it is a world class amenity whereas solar farms should be located in low impact positions.

roger lyon (Leicestershire, 2023-08-12)

#2122

I love Barnsdale gardens and they would be hard to replace

Helen Williams (Oundle, 2023-08-12)

#2123

Barnsdale is an important part of British gardening history

cliff plowes (abermule, 2023-08-12)

#2126

Whilst I wholeheartedly support the drive for renewable energy production in the UK, I do not see why other valuable national assetts of historic or cultural significance, such as these gardens, need to be menaced by that endeavour.

Steven Saxty (Newton Bromswold, 2023-08-12)

#2127

This is a beautiful garden established over years and would be a loss to the local tourism

Jane Clowery (Corby, 2023-08-12)

#2128

The inevitable destruction of this valuable local resource of nature and tranquility

Ronnie Golisti (Beverley, 2023-08-12)

#2130

Rutland and the surround area is a unquie and beautiful site and the gardens are a marvel.

Tom Black (Biggleswade, 2023-08-13)

#2131

I object to the plans because of the effect it will have on Barnsdale garden.

Philip Hall (Leicester, 2023-08-13)

#2132

Other land should be considered that doesn’t impact the trade of other local business. The gardens also create loads of habitats for a wealth of flora and fauna… this shouldn’t be lost unnecessarily.

Danielle Kennell (Leicester, 2023-08-13)

#2136

I am a member of Barnddale and I feel it is a very important place offering inspiration for gardeners through a series of ordinary gardens. It is also an important tourist site for the county of Rutland.

Barbara Cray (SOUTHWELL, 2023-08-14)

#2140

Barnsdale is a very important place to me, I started gardening because of Geoff Hamilton and believe his garden is of historic importance in the gardening history of the uk.

Janette Poole (Wilberfoss, 2023-08-14)

#2141

Barnsdale Gardens are a valuable resource for the area - a place of great beauty and peace and encouraging people’s interest in environmental issues. I have been visiting and enjoying the gardens for 30 years.

Helen Banks (Stamford, 2023-08-14)

#2142

Another part of Leicestershires beautiful countryside will be built on, what about the wildlife in this idllyic setting. The authorities should be ashamed of themselves.

Amanda Drake (Loughborough, 2023-08-14)

#2145

I object to the solar fam being sited next to Barnsdale Gardens. The noise generated will spoil the peace and tranquility of the gardens and solar farms are not the most efficient way of providing green electricity. One off shore turbine will provide the same amount of green power as acres or solar panels. Good farm land should be used to grow food not electricity. Solar panels should be placed on newly built houses , farm buildings and industrial roofs.

Gillian ryan (BISHOP'S STORTFORD, 2023-08-15)

#2148

It would ruin the ambience at Barnsdale.

John Poole (Northampton, 2023-08-15)

#2149

Idont think there is a need to desr
Troy good arable land to provibe a solar farm use acurrent brown field sites factory roofs, plus all the side effects noise from motors , recycle lithium batteries storage effect on local tourism

Helen Mcgarrigle (Greetham, 2023-08-15)

#2150

Barnsdale have simply the loveliest gardens I've ever visited. They are inspirational whilst being within reach of the average gardener to re create elements on their own plot. The intrusion created by a solar development next door would seriously damage the capacity of the gardens to continue to function as they currently do. They are an enormous asset to the local area bringing in visitors from far afield who having visited once are likely to return to the area again. Having travelled a long distance to visit I fully intend to return. Why ruin something that works so well?

Jenny Bradley (Andover, 2023-08-16)

#2152

The solar farm would severely impact on Barnsdale Gardens which are the best wheelchair access gardens I have come across. Their loss would be a blow to Rutland.

This is the caring location for solar farm of this size. It will dominate the landscape & have a hugely deteimental impact on the diversity of wildlife & the local environment, including Barnsdale which has always championed sustainability & organic gardening.

Geoff Hamilton inspired so many gardeners with his programmes from Barnsdale. Don't spoil this national treasure with noise from a solar farm.

Moira Lambert (Essex, 2023-08-19)

Barnsdale is remarkable due to its collection of smaller gardens which are more inspirational to the more typical size of gardens people have these days.

Pauline Williams (Bracknell, 2023-08-21)

#2184

I would hate the noise from the wind turbines to deter visitors to beautiful Barnsdale Gardens, resulting in loss of Income & of the viable means to fund & sustain them. This is a family legacy that needs to be protected.

#2189

Barnsdale must be protected. Planners and developers should understand the positive effect of plants, gardens and nature on the nation's well-being, especially our mental health.

Mary Thomas (Loughborough, 2023-08-22)

#2192

I enjoy the peace and tranquility of Barnsdale gardens as well as the wildlife it attracts. Static solar panels might be acceptable but the constant noise, not to mention the movement of tracking panels would seriously disturb and confuse the birds both in and around the gate dens and the nearby raptor rescue centre. Barnsdale gardens is also a big tourist attraction bringing money and jobs into Rutland.

Janis Warren (Grantham, 2023-08-23)

#2193

I object to the building of this huge energy complex which will dominate the area and all but result in the closing of one of the best gardens in England - Barnsdale Gardens

David Williams (Chester, 2023-08-23)

#2195

Barnsdale Gardens are a legacy to the British nation, gifted by one of the most popular BBC gardeners in recent years.
Rutland needs to protect its heritage, not destroy it when there are other options available to them!!! 🌳
