My son suffers from depression and it is a constant worry for my husband and I. A 62 year old friend of ours committed suicide 3 weeks ago, leaving 5 children and 11 grandchildren because he was more afraid of living 1 more day than of dying and leaving them. Our loved ones and friends deserve ALL we can do for them! We deserve to NOT worry all the time. Please help(Indian Head, Saskatchewan, 2017-01-10)

I am a user of mental health services. Took 3 days of going to emergency and being released during crisis. 3 month wait to get Assigned to psychiatrist 8 month wait to see psychologist and half the nurses laid off. I went in to get off the high dosages oh benzos and cocktail of antidepressants in a supervised withdrawal. ... instead released with an "on your own" 9 month plan. While in the ward. Individuals who went to emergency suicidal and turned away and had to go back another day with someone to get admitted. Others that were self admitted had been 5 days without seeing psychiatrist. ..therefore not able to be given any of their meds, outdoor privaleges to at least grab a smoke and no access to any nicotine gum or patches in order to help. So double withdrawal and when they would get upset and demand to see someone for help ( granted using some profanity) head nurse threatened to strap them down. My psychiatrist that I was ASSIGNED by mental health clinic saw me twice. Initial appt and one many months later. The rest were phone apps. About 10 min max. Never had file in front of him, never remembered last call or med dosage, constantly making med mistakes requiring multiple calls to office and pharmacy wasting time. And all the time billing for apps over this 2 year period. If this is what the system offers intellegent people who don't misuse or abuse or take illegal drugs and such -who is advocating for street people or individuals with much more serious mental health problems. And all this after the gov't said it was a priority, there are no wait times and all is well. It has to be a dedicated portfolio with someone who KNOWS ABOUT IT not just a new brach tacked onto cabinet ministers plate. AND if it's this bad now - How will the "One big" health district help(Regina, 2017-01-11)

I have dealt with my bi polar ex husband, it was a nightmare getting help when he desperately needed it.We also had to wait for a yr to get help for our daughter with a previous mental health issues prior to coming to live with us.
The health of my loved ones is paramount and the serious lack of understanding and availability to help when in crisis is unacceptable to me.
Our efforts to help them when in crisis is limited especially in the rural areas and access to help equally limited.
I myself suffer from PTSD and depression as well and five yrs ago when I needed help the most it was equally challenging to get the help I desperately needed.

I'm signing because I truly believe more trained professionals need to be put in easy to access areas or high mental illness risk centres such as school divisions, care homes, addiction centres, specialized health areas like cancer clinics. A place outside of a doctors office who is a general practitioner not specialized in mental health. An accountable leader is required to oversee coordination of inserting this service where required, manage the budget and have the power to make decisions without any bureaucracy and process holding the services up.(Qu'Appelle, 2017-01-11)

I am signing this petition because I have bipolar, OCD and anxiety. While I'm successfully medicated, there are unfortunately many others who are not. They either do not get the help they need from the medical community or are ashamed to reach out. Some dont even respond to treatment. All provinces, and Canada as a whole needs a Minister of Mental Health. Depression alone costs companies millions annually due to sick calls, lack of productivity and so on. Imagine how much more money we could put back into our province is everyone was taken care of mentally. Imagine the improvement for families. Imagine the stigma erased. We need a minister ... like decades ago.(Indian Head, 2017-01-11)

#159
I feel most individuals deal with "mental health" challenges at some point in their lives. Either themselves or someone close to them. It is difficult to find help & the stigma surrounding mental health prevents people from getting the help they need. I believe private services should also be subsidized by the government because the current MH services offered by the province are greatly lacking. The service provided by public health is inconsistent & is sometimes difficult to access. MH issues are on the rise and are costing people their lives. I lived in Nipawin & the tragedies in Tisdale & Choiceland should be a serious wake-up call to the importance of MH. As an educator we see the challenges MH issues cause in students & how it negatively impacts their learning & social/personal lives. I believe every school in the province needs a full time school counsellor or social worker.(Outlook, 2017-01-12)
