Petition to stop the erection of new 5G transmitters in Devonport
As an engaged citizen, I call on local authorities and Telecommunication providers to halt the further erection of 5G towers and small cell antenna arrays within Devonport, Auckland and its surrounding areas until comprehensive studies have been conducted, and the safety of this technology is affirmed. Everyone has a right to a safe living environment, free from the health hazards posed by electromagnetic pollution.
There is currently a lack of quality, robust safety studies on 5G. However, there are many independent peer reviewed studies that have shown harmful effects of microwave radiation from previous Radio and Cell tower technologies at levels much lower than current exposures. Health effects found in comprehensive reviews such as the Bioinitiative Report (https://bioinitiative.org/) and Environmental Health Trust (https://ehtrust.org/) include:
*Cancer: Possible Class 2B Carcinogen according to the W.H.O.
*Damage to DNA
*Neurological effects, and disruption of the Blood Brain Barrier
*Fertility problems
*Effects on immune and hormonal system
*Electro-sensitivity or microwave syndrome
*Effects on wildlife and the environment (bees)
*Children, elderly and immunocompromised are more vulnerable
International Guidelines on Non-Ionising Radiation (https://ignir.org/) recommend safe electromagnetic radiation levels many thousands of times lower than what the New Zealand Standard (NZS 2772.1:1999) currently deem ‘safe’.
5G technology promises faster internet connection but our current 3G/4G is more than sufficient for our communication needs. We must not put convenience and the promise of more speed over our health.
Please stand with us and sign this petition to protect our community and halt the erection of 5G towers in our area.
