Give Brackendowns Police Station resources to keep the community safe!

While the community of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns cries out for their safety, Gauteng Provincial Government is failing Brackendowns Police station.

The building that houses the police station was not built for that purpose, but as a bus stop. The offices consist of rented modular structures, which are run down, with considerable damage to the walls.

The SAPS has been renting these premises for more than 20 years, since 1993, and of late the lease has been on a month-to-month basis.

Furthermore, Brackendowns SAPS is constantly facing challenges with the unavailability of vehicles. Without vehicles on the road, the community continues to be at risk as crime continues to escalate.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is appealing to the Gauteng Community Safety MEC, Sizakele Malobane, to urgently change the Brackendowns police station from a temporary to a fully-fledged permanent station.

Furthermore, as is with the decline of police reservists nationally to 8 908 from 63 592 nine years ago; the area which Brackendowns SAPS serves has less than 10 police reservists assisting the police with fighting crime.

Just as more officers are needed on the streets, police reservists who are trained are needed to ensure safety for the community.
