GATWICK CIRCLE PARK, RACEVIEW - WARD 106 PETITION

We the undersigned residents of Ward 106, Alberton in the City of Ekurhuleni hereby petition the City of Ekurhuleni Parks Department to urgently address the issues in Gatwick Circle Park, Raceview by means of the following remedies:

● Place concrete bollards around the entire park to prevent vehicles from driving and parking in the public park

● Place a permanent large signboard in the park with the rules and regulations of a public park

This public park has become an inconvenience and nuisance to the residents of Raceview as well as to other residents/park users. Below is a detailed description of the issues:

1. The park has become a parking lot for e-hailing vehicles and many other vehicles

2. Due to vehicles having access to drive into and park in the park, there are a whole host of issues arising therefrom, namely:

a). The playing of loud music in vehicles

b). People parking to engage in sexual intercourse

c). Drug and alcohol abuse

d). Dumping of refuse bags with household waste and litter from vehicles

e). Vehicles parked overnight with occupants of the vehicles sleeping in the park in their vehicles

f). Vehicles congregating in the park to have parties which results in broken bottles, alcohol and drug paraphernalia being littered around the park

3. Due to the lack of signage of the Rules and Regulations of a public park, the park is being misused and illegal activities such an alcohol use, drug use continue without consequence

4. EMPD are under-resourced and cannot be expected to be called out continuously to deal with the consequences of the misuse of the park

5. The noise and disturbance to residents living around the park as well as those in close proximity is unbearable and has become a weekly and nearly every weekend occurrence. Their peace and quiet is being severely infringed upon

6. The park has drug paraphernalia and other dangerous items littered throughout which is especially dangerous to children as well as others wishing to enjoy the park

We urge the City of Ekurhuleni Parks Department to take this petition seriously and to act swiftly to provide permanent solutions as set out above.
