It is a ridiculous and outdated rule that needs addressing. Common sense should prevail. Children need to feel comfortable at school and being overheated in unsuitable warm clothes will hinder their ability to concentrate and therefore learn

It's medically proved that boy's testicals/sperm can be damaged from over heating and the type of underwear and pants they wear so surely wearing full length pants on a scorching hot day is putting them at risk of the possibility of infertility or other serious complications.

I think the uniform policy in extreme weather inhibits learning and is not reflective of the environment or responsive leadership from the school heads/ chairs/ execs etc

There is no rational reason to ban the wearing of shorts, in the 50s and 60s boys wore short trousers well into their teens, children need to be reasonably comfortable to learn.

School shorts can still look presentable and think all schools should let boys wear them.
Children are there to learn an education and think the obsession with uniform needs to be stopped. Also Polo Shirts can look just as smart

It's ridiculous that there's no option to wear shorts, when there is to wear skirts. Even royal boys have to wear shorts instead of trousers until a certain age – so it isn't a question of smartness. Just let children be comfortable. As if there aren't enough obstacles to a teenager's ability to learn in the first place.

It is so wrong to have the male students wearing ling trousers in this hot weather. Surely they could wear shorts ,and be comfortable. If the school wants them to wear skirts in hot weather, then they should be part of the school uniform. It's 2023, not 1823.

I am signing this due to the fact that even though im not from Stockport this is a change that's needed everywhere and if one area starts the change everywhere else will follow. Its not fair or right that boys are forced to wear long trousers instead of shorts when the temperatures are high. There's no logical reason why this would not be allowed.

I think it is utterly immoral and sexist that boys have to wear long trousers in hot weather, Girls are allowed to wear skirts but boys have to suffer in long trousers, my daughter also agrees with this.
This is very old fashioned values, the world is a very different place than it was 20/30/40 years ago, you have major business offices that don't have to wear shirt, tie and blazer. Schools need to look at reality and realise shorts are not going to ruin how the children learn, in fact they may help, letting these young adults be comfortable when learning surley is the only responsible thing to do.

I am actually an adult worker with a sensory issue need for shorts recognised by the employment support system and in my work (gardener) since 2009 because I'm autistic. This has for all that time been a precedent proving school uniforms a human rights violation, and the gendered long trousers rules a foul mass child abuse. Which I suffered too in the 80s. Sensory issues have already been known to science for a generation.
Just last week, in Southampton on a day with temperatures that never happened in winter in my childhood, I was struck to see many shorts being worn, throughout the day, and what a contrast it is autisticgroupsfairnesswatchwordpresscom/2023/12/11/southampton-winter-climate-changes-impact-on-sensory-issue-memories/
To be damned as a mass hate crime against kids, that the BBC should have been forced to include in its post-Savile enquiry, is episode 2/6 of Blackadder, that incited sided with and victim blamed for, bullying against shorts

I have children at HGHS and this rule along with most of the uniform policy is a joke for all students. Shorts should be allowed for any gender in the hotter months for their own comfort.
