Justification For Quality Education in NL

I'm signing because I'm concerned about the quality of education we are providing to our students under the current model of Inclusion which is severely under resourced.

Originally From Labrador. The quality of education is at an all time low...children are not getting the education they should due to large classroom size which lead to insufficient personal care per student, govt cuts, teachers having to use own money to provide supplies is utterly ridiculous. ...the list can go on an on....our children deserve much better.

I'm signing because our kids need to reach their full learning potential and teachers need more resources to help each student achieve this.

I have 2 small children whom I want the best for, and I know, as a teacher, that our current system is putting this province's youth at a disadvantage. This is not stemming from the efforts of the staff in every school because the majority of these people give above and beyond the expectations in any other career. The faults in our system are coming from a lack of resources, large class sizes, ineffective policies, etc. As a teacher, I give my very best every day, but as a parent, I fear that my best and the best of my colleagues simply isn't enough to prepare our children to lead the future.

The education of our children have been ignored and placed on the back burner for way too long. It's now time to invest in education and our children for the right reasons!

My son, Noah, along with ALL others who have exceptionalities, deserve a quality education, a safe place to attend school and the right supports in place to ensure they feel safe and cared for while at school. I do not believe inclusion is right for my son and I wish more then anything that there was another option besides public school for him. But since this is not the case, his school and all other schools HAVE to accommodate him and others with special needs. It is their right. I am disgusted that our government has failed our children in the past and continues to fail them.

Our education system fails the students that try and benefits the ones who don't. I had excellent grades and honestly somewhat enjoyed school up until about grade 9, when all of the content was updated and made significantly easier. It removed any need to really think about my schoolwork, left me incredibly bored, and I dropped out before finishing Grade 11.

I was there, ready and willing to learn, but my school didn't want to teach me anything new. It seems to be that way in a lot of schools in the province and it needs to change.

My son is deaf and has not been receiving an education because he has no one to teach him in ASL. He just started Kindergarten and is severely behind and failing in every area due to the fact that no one can teach him or assess him properly. Enoungh is enough...our children deserve better!

(St. Philips, 2017-03-30)

I believe that inclusion is very important and it is something that is lacking in our school system. Students need to be provided with the proper tools to learn and teachers need the proper tools and resources to teach. This is where our system is failing us.

My youngest son is deaf and is not being appropriately supported to ensure he received an equal education.

(Portugal Cove - St. Philips, 2017-03-31)

#515

It's the right thing to do. Education is tops! Special needs families go through enough, should this one really add to their list of needs/wants/rights that is a given for everyone else.

(Portugal cove, 2017-03-31)

#520

You're violating the basic human right of a child to receive an education. Children are the adults who will be making decisions like this that affect adults in the future. Set an example! Do the right and legal as well as moral thing!

I have a child with special needs who is not getting the adequate care attention she needs and deserves in thr class room because the government keeps cutting down on thr man power hours for student assistance and IRT'S. She is falling through the cracks and the teachers are severly stressed over these issues. I also have two other children in the school system that are in classrooms with too many students per teacher ratios and the curriculum being taught is suffering due to the many on going issues that go along with these over crowded class sizes.

(flatrock, 2017-03-31)

The state of Newfoundlands education system is one of the many reasons that prevents me from moving back to NL. It sickens me that children can so easily be set up to fail and fall through the cracks. My daughter is lucky to be able to attend a special needs preschool in our current province and get the help she needs. The current "system" in NL for children that need extra help certainly needs a massive overhaul.

(Edmonton, 2017-03-31)

I am a student assistant with NLESD and I see how classrooms are impacted by our provincial budgeting! Teachers are trying to do their best with what resources they have but it's hard to do this when there is so much assistance needed and less help and resources given by our government!
Every child deserves an equal oppertunity at education and in some circumstances they are not receiving it because they may require more help and the resources is not there to do so.

The quality of education in Newfoundland and Labrador is all ready sub par. I had 2 children with disabilities go threw the education system I know how bad the system is. I have a third child that will be starting school soon I am frightened to let her attend. I am seriously thinking about home schooling so she can get a proper education and not the joke of a system that is in place now.

(St. John's, 2017-04-03)
