It's too expensive the council is out of controlJim Clark (Martinborough, 2024-10-25)

The SW district council have proved they don’t deserve our rates as successive council have done nothing to plan for or develop the water and sewerage the problem has been known for decades. The disgraceful Pain Estate dumping idea is an example of their ineptitude. The growth of council has not improved productivity just ew cars and staff. Why not consider a grey water plan where the water could be used to irrigate the golf course or farmland. Grenache Gilf Course does this very successfully. Nelson council has developed a process which uses the water rather than SW dump onto land or into the river.

Recent increases have been excessive and it is not sustainable.Angela King (Wellington, 2024-10-26)

Rates rises have got out of hand. The number of employees at the council has risen 50% in the last 5 years for no benefit. If this was a private sector business, shareholders would be calling for change. As rate payers we are shareholders in the council and we're calling for change!Mark Trotter (Martinborough, 2024-10-26)
#213
Had enough of rates rises, a lack of services provided, and also a gutful of councils not being held accountable for dumb decisions.Stefan Lang (Featherston, 2024-10-26)
#214
The rates increases are unsustainable, and we as rural get none of the services our rates are supporting water, rubbish, footpath, etc etc. We can’t use the free swimming pools or libraries as we work full time and these are closed after hours. We feel as though we are funding urban living the rates we pay do not reflect the services available to us.Bronwyn Hall (Featherston, 2024-10-26)

My wife Sue and I are on the pension and we are finding it difficult to meet the over 100% increase in our rates that we are now facing, and still buy food, pay for electricity etc, not quite what we expected moving to a rural town! SWDC, first and foremost, have a 'Duty of Care' to the community to ensure that all people from all walks of life can afford to live comfortably in their own home and have sufficient money left over for good food and other essentials. These huge increases in our rates without consultation are; to say the least, perfidious!George & Sue Watterson (Featherston, 2024-10-26)
#217
I want the SWDC to reform their operations so that they spend rates and other income solely on core infrastructure and stick to a budget that is not increased by more that 3% in the next financial year.Karen Krogh (Martinborough, 2024-10-26)
#224
The rates are at a level now that even those well off, let alone those not, are struggling with the amount that needs to be payed to the council and I feel there is not much to show for the amount of rates we all pay. There are definitely things in the councils budget that they could cut to bring the increases down.Tayla McGillicuddy (Featherston, 2024-10-28)

Rates are spiraling out of control..Nathan Fenwick (Martinborough, 2024-10-29)

Rate increases have been excessive. In particular the method of changing for water. One connection to the property boundary should only attract one fixed charge. Not based on the number of SUIPs. Let the meter take care of consumption.Rick Thompson (Wellington, 2024-10-29)
#239
Disatatisfied with continuing and unreasonable increases in our rates.Seamus O’Sullivan (Greytown, 2024-10-29)
#244
I believe we could all make a change, but a petition won’t be enough! We should all stop paying our rates until the council understand our frustration and start making some drastic changes such as stop increasing the rates, work on our water issues…
Thanks Lea!

Our rates that apply to our farming operation need to be sustainable, our last increase certainly was not and we see nothing extra in our rural community.Tim Loe (Kahutara, 2024-10-29)

I'm sick of the SWDC continually hiking rates because they have not put money aside, wasting rates fighting ratepayers (Pain Farm) being inefficient and not trying to reduce their staffing or spending by 10%Hooson Chris (Martinborough, 2024-10-30)
#279
I support the petition. I agree wholeheartedly that rates in the South Wairarapa District need to be capped at an affordable and sustainable level. I also agree with the need for the Council to adopt responsible financial management practices which appear to have been lacking for some time.Lorna Janne Fulcher (MARTINBOROUGH, 2024-10-30)

We need to amalgamate with another Wairarapa or other Wairarapa councils. It’s crazy to try to pay for the infrastructure needed with such a tiny population.Nicola Newell (Martinborough, 2024-10-30)
#299
It’s bullshit, where do I start!!? People with money and influence but not much sense makes decisions based on whatever they decided makes their job relevant in council, not all but some. I have gained nothing but have invested seeing little return. Don’t live in town but seeing properties flooded by storm water drains 🤦♀️ 300% increase in rates not acceptable aroha nui to the OG locals that have enough to deal with…Vanessa Barriball (Martinborough, 2024-10-30)

The rate increase is ridiculous especially for us who live rurally. We get nothing rurally for our rates-poor grading of our road-it should be sealed with all the traffic on it, no water supply, no sewerage, no culvert maintenance, power cuts every month nearly, no rubbish removal. What’s the point?the people living out of town will be subsidising the people in townHans Pretorius (Martinborough, 2024-10-30)

As a rural ratepayer, the continual huge increases in rates are unsustainable and unjustified - over 70% in two years.Kirsty Bennett (Martinborough, 2024-10-31)

I'm signing because this system of rating is unfair and unsustainable for the people who live in the South WairarapaJennie Cohen (Masterton, 2024-10-31)

The cost of living is hard enough without local body councils having unfair expectations to pass on excessive spending to their ratepayers without achieving the basic infrastructure needs of our community.Scott Madden (Martinborough, 2024-11-01)

The rate hikes are ridiculously expensive, unnecessary (we get pretty much nothing for our rates rurally!!) and just plain greedy (and not just for my household!!), and I will not be able to cover them to live/run my business here for much longer.Barbara Jackson (Featherston, 2024-11-05)

Rates are out of control. People can’t afford to pay them and where is all the money going the place is a shambles!Rachel Hall (Greytown, 2024-11-05)

Increasing rates with no sign of improvement in service is wrong. How about councils concentrate on providing basic services (water, refuse, roads, planning and consents) to a high standard and keep the 'fluffy duck' initiatives to a minimum.Simon Hoskins (Martinborough, 2024-11-06)
